Negative impacts

Floods can be a huge destructive power. When water flows, it has the ability to demolish all kinds of buildings and objects, such as bridges, structures, houses, trees, and cars. Economical, social and natural environmental damages are common factors that are impacted by flooding events and the impacts that flooding has on these areas can be catastrophic. There is an interconnectedness between floods and agriculture, climate, economy, and disease (FACED). Floods resulted in losses exceeding USD 1.5 trillion to agriculture between 1991 and 2023, representing the single most destructive hazard type for global agriculture and reflecting the widespread vulnerability of agricultural systems to water-related disasters.
