EAM-ELAS

Legacy

EAM-ELAS was the largest group of the Greek Resistance, which was one of the strongest resistance movements in Nazi-occupied Europe. With the coming of PASOK to power in 1981, ΕΑΜ-ELAS was recognized officially by the Greek state as part of the National Resistance, as were already recognized other smaller resistance organizations by the previous governments. The fighters of ELAS still alive were honored and given state pensions.
