Cmdlets

A cmdlet (pronounced command-lets) is a .NET class that derives either from the Cmdlet class or the PSCmdlet class, both of which reside in the System.Management.Automation namespace. The latter is used when it needs to interact with the PowerShell runtime. The base classes specify methods – BeginProcessing(), ProcessRecord() and EndProcessing() – which a cmdlet overrides to provide functionality based on the events that these functions represent. ProcessRecord() is called if the object receives pipeline input. If a collection of objects is piped, the method is invoked for each object in the collection. The cmdlet class must have the attributeCmdletAttribute which specifies the verb and the noun that make up the name of the cmdlet.
