Anisozygoptera

Anisozygoptera

Anisozygoptera is a small suborder of Odonata comprising three living species, all placed in the genus Epiophlebia and family Epiophlebiidae. Sometimes called damsel-dragonflies, they combine characteristics of dragonflies and damselflies, but are more closely related to dragonflies.

Living anisozygopterans have a disjunct distribution in Asia, where their aquatic nymphs inhabit cold, well-oxygenated mountain streams. They are the only surviving representatives of an ancient lineage and are distinguished from other living odonates by their combination of anatomical and behavioural characteristics.
