A wilaya or wilayah (Arabic: وِلَايَة, romanized: wilāya, plural وِلَايَاتwilāyāt; Classical Persian: wilāyat; Urdu: ولایتvilāyat; Turkish: vilayet) is an administrative division, usually translated as "state", "province" or occasionally as "governorate".
