Extinct clade of theropod dinosaursMegaraptora is a clade of carnivorous theropoddinosaurs. Its derived members, the Megaraptoridae are noted for their large hand claws and powerfully-built forelimbs, which are usually reduced in size in other large theropods. Megaraptorans are incompletely known, and no complete megaraptoran skeleton has been found. However, they still possessed a number of unique features.

MegaraptorMegaraptorMegaraptor (lit.'large thief') is a genus of large theropoddinosaur, the type genus and namesake of the cladeMegaraptora and familyMegaraptoridae. Its fossils have been discovered in the Patagonian Portezuelo Formation of Argentina, South America, dating to the Turonian and Coniacian ages of the Late Cretaceous, roughly 90–88 million years ago.CoelurosauriaCoelurosauriaCoelurosauria from Greek κοῖλος (koîlos, "hollow") + οὐρά (ourá, "tail") + σαύρα (saúra, "lizard") + -ia, meaning "hollow-tailed lizards", is the clade containing all theropoddinosaurs more closely related to birds than to carnosaurs. Coelurosauria is a subgroup of theropod dinosaurs that includes compsognathids, tyrannosauroids, ornithomimosaurs, maniraptorans, and over the recent years, megaraptorans (although their position within the clade is unclear).PhuwiangvenatorPhuwiangvenatorPhuwiangvenator () is an extinct genus of megaraptorantheropod that lived during the Early Cretaceous period in what is now Thailand. It contains only the type species, P. yaemniyomi. The generic name of Phuwiangvenator comes from the Phu Wiang mountains, where the holotype was discovered, and the Latin word "venator" meaning hunter.FukuiraptorFukuiraptorFukuiraptor ("thief of Fukui") is a genus of medium-sized megaraptoran theropod dinosaur of the Early Cretaceous epoch (either Barremian or Aptian) that lived in what is now Japan. Fukuiraptor is known from the Kitadani Formation and possibly also the Sebayashi Formation. Fukuiraptor may have been one of the basalmost members of Megaraptora, or a sister taxon to Australovenator.Glossary of dinosaur anatomyGlossary of dinosaur anatomyThis glossary explains technical terms commonly employed in the description of dinosaur body fossils. Besides dinosaur-specific terms, it covers terms with wider usage, when these are of central importance in the study of dinosaurs or when their discussion in the context of dinosaurs is beneficial. The glossary does not cover ichnological and bone histological terms, nor does it cover measurements.Family (taxonomy)Family (taxonomy)Family (Latin: familia, pl.: familiae) is one of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks in Linnaean taxonomy. It is classified between order and genus. A family may be divided into subfamilies, which are intermediate ranks between the ranks of family and genus.DinosaurDinosaurDinosaurs are a diverse group of warmblooded reptiles of the cladeDinosauria. They existed through most of the Mesozoicera, first appearing early in the Triassicperiod. They became the dominant terrestrial vertebrates after the Triassic–Jurassic extinction event 201.3 mya and their dominance continued throughout the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.CladeCladeIn biology, a clade () (from Ancient Greekκλάδος (kládos)'branch'), also known as a monophyletic group or natural group, is a group of organisms that is composed of a common ancestor and all of its descendants. Clades are the fundamental unit of cladistics, a modern approach to taxonomy adopted by most biological fields. The common ancestor may be an individual, a population, or a species (extinct or extant).Skeletal pneumaticitySkeletal pneumaticitySkeletal pneumaticity is the presence of air spaces within bones. It is generally produced during development by excavation of bone by pneumatic diverticula (air sacs) from an air-filled space, such as the lungs or nasal cavity. Pneumatization is highly variable between individuals, and bones not normally pneumatized can become pneumatized in pathological development.TaxonTaxonIn biology, a taxon is a group of one or more populations of an organism, or organisms, as seen by taxonomists to form a biological unit; (taxon: back-formation from taxonomy; pl.: taxa). Although neither is required, a taxon, once its description has become established, is usually known by a particular name and is given a particular ranking. MethodsTaxonomists consider: which organisms belong to a given taxonwhich criteria are to be used for deciding inclusion.TheropodaTheropodaExtant clade of dinosaursIn the modern fauna, theropods are represented by over 11,000 species of birds, which are a group of maniraptoran theropods within the clade Avialae.Theropoda (; from ancient Greekθηρίο-ποδός [θηρίον, (therion) "wild beast"; πούς, ποδός (pous, podos) "foot"]) is one of the three major clades of dinosaurs, alongside Ornithischia and Sauropodomorpha.Primitive (phylogenetics)Primitive (phylogenetics)In phylogenetics, a primitive (or ancestral or basal) character, trait, or feature of a lineage or taxon is one that is inherited from the common ancestor of a clade (or clade group) and has undergone little change since. Conversely, a trait that only appears in some members of the clade group, but not all, is called advanced or derived. A clade is a group of organisms that consists of a common ancestor and all its lineal descendants.rugoserugoseRelated word or term.camellatecamellateRelated word or term.wildcardwildcardRelated word or term.
