CV-2000 was one of the world's first home video tape recorders (VTR), introduced by Sony in August 1965. The 'CV' in the model name stood for 'Consumer Video' (消費者向けビデオ, shōhishamuke bideo). This was Sony's domestic format throughout the 1960s. It was a forerunner to the first fully transistorizedVCR. The CV-2000 was developed by Sony engineer Nobutoshi Kihara.

Video tape recorderVideo tape recorderA video tape recorder (VTR) is a tape recorder designed to record and play back video and audio material from magnetic tape. The early VTRs were open-reel devices that record on individual reels of 2-inch-wide (5.08 cm) video tape. They were used in television studios, serving as a replacement for motion picture film stock and making recording for television applications cheaper and quicker.EIAJ-1EIAJ-1EIAJ-1 was a standard for video tape recorders (VTRs) developed by the Electronic Industries Association of Japan with the cooperation and assistance of several Japanese electronics manufacturers in 1969. It was the first standardized format for industrial/non-broadcast VTRs using a helical scan system employing open reel tape.Video tape trackingVideo tape trackingIn a video tape recorder, tracking is a calibration adjustment which ensures that the spinning playback head is properly aligned with the helical scan signal written onto the tape.Helical scanHelical scanHelical scan is a method of recording high-frequency signals on magnetic tape, used in open-reel video tape recorders, video cassette recorders, digital audio tape recorders, and some computer tape drives. With this technique, magnetic tape heads (or head chips) are placed on a rotating head drum, which moves the heads at high speed by due to its high angular velocity. The speed of the heads must be higher than the linear speed of the tape.SonySonyJapanese multinational corporationSony Group Corporation is a Japanese multinationalconglomerate headquartered at the Sony City building in Minato, Tokyo. The Sony Group is a highly diversified global conglomerate with businesses spanning video games, music, film and television, consumer electronics, imaging and sensing, semiconductors, financial services and others. Sony was founded in 1946 as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo K.K. by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita.Nobutoshi KiharaNobutoshi KiharaNobutoshi Kihara (木原 信敏 Kihara Nobutoshi, 14 October 1926 – 13 February 2011) was an engineer at Sony, best known for his work on the original Walkman cassette-tape player in the 1970s and was commonly called Mr. Walkman (Nobutoshi Kihara) in the press. Born in Tokyo, Kihara attended Waseda University, then joined Sony's predecessor, Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation in 1947 as a new university graduate. He retired from Sony in 2006.Videocassette recorderVideocassette recorderDevice which records and plays back audio-visual media A typical late-model Philips Magnavox, VHS format VCR A close-up process of how the magnetic tape in a VHS cassette is being pulled from the cassette shell to the head drum of the VCR A videocassette recorder (VCR) or video recorder is an electromechanical device that records analog audio and analog video from broadcast television or other AV sources and can play back the recording from the tape.Skip fieldSkip fieldIn video, skip field recording is a process in which only one field (one half of a frame) of video is recorded in order to conserve recording media space. In some cases, the quality loss from not using both fields is negligible, although it leads to a reduction in vertical and temporal resolution. It was a common method used in early telerecording systems, as well as early and current non-professional/industrial videotape formats such as CV-2000, Cartrivision and V-Cord.Television linesTelevision linesTelevision lines (TVL) is a specification of an analog camera or monitor's horizontal image resolution. The TVL is one of the most important resolution measures in a video system. The TVL can be measured with the standard EIA 1956 resolution chart.VideotapeVideotapeVideotape is magnetic tape used for storing video and usually sound in addition. Information stored can be in the form of either an analog or digital signal. The tape can come in a stand-alone tape reel or inside a casing such as a tape cartridge or cassette. Videotape is used in both video tape recorders (VTRs) and, more commonly, videocassette recorders (VCRs) and camcorders.TransistorTransistorA transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electrical signals and power. It is one of the basic building blocks of modern electronics. It is composed of semiconductor material, usually with at least three terminals for connection to an electronic circuit. A voltage or current applied to one pair of the transistor's terminals controls the current through another pair of terminals.VideoVideoVideo is an electronic medium used for the recording, copying, playback, transmission, and display of moving visual images and pictures, with or without accompanying audio. Video technology was initially developed for live transmission and later expanded to include recording and storage through analog formats such as magnetic tape.Reel-to-reel audio tape recordingReel-to-reel audio tape recordingReel-to-reel audio tape recording, also called open-reel recording, is magnetic tape audio recording in which the recording tape is spooled between reels. To prepare for use, the supply reel (or feed reel) containing the tape is placed on a spindle or hub. The end of the tape is manually pulled from the reel, threaded through mechanical guides and over a tape head assembly, and attached by friction to the hub of the second, initially empty takeup reel.
