Vernayaz has an area, , of . Of this area, 12.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 54.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 17.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and 14.9% is unproductive land.

The entire hamlet of Miéville is designated as part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. The Gueuroz Bridge, formerly the tallest bridge in Europe, connects Vernayaz to the neighboring Salvan across the gorges of the Trient.
