Originally described as a subspecies, ''Sceloporus torquatus mikeprestoni'',Hobart M. Smith and Ticul Alvarez 1974. ''Sceloporus mikeprestoni'' is most often associated with boulders and rock outcroppings, taking refuge in cracks and crevices among the rocks when threatened.
