Political career
In 1989, Gandalovič was a founder member of the
Civic Forum

, and was elected as a Member of the
Federal Assembly in 1990. The following year he was one of the founders of the breakaway
Civic Democratic Party.
In 1992 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Environment, and in 1994 he became an adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Between 1997 and 2002 he was the Consul General of the Czech Republic in
