. The museum was originally a "large farm" (, in contrast to a small farm"">small_farm.html" ;"title="small farm">small farm"or ["leased farm"]) and later on an agricultural school. The former Møre og Romsdal, Romsdal County (''Romsdalen amt'') purchased the Gjermundnes Farm 1898. A new facility was built in 1908 to meet the special requirements for the newly established agricultural school. That building had become dilapidated by 1972, and it was decided to demolish it when new construction was completed. However, with financial support from the county executive board, the
