Pujini Ruins
Pujini Ruins (''Magofu ya mji wa kale wa Pujini'' in Swahili ) is a medieval historic site next to the village of Pujini located in Chake Chake District of Pemba South Region. There used to be a fortified palace at the site, only ruins of the walls remain. The palace is believed to have been of Mkame Mdume. Its one of several National Historic Sites on the island of Pemba including Chambani and Ras Mkumbuu. Kimbiji
Kimbiji (Swahili: ''Kata ya Kimbiji'') is an administrative ward in the Kigamboni district of the Dar es Salaam Region of Tanzania. The Indian Ocean borders the ward on its eastern side. Pembamnazi to the south and Kisarawe II to the west form its borders. The ward is bordered by Somangila to the north. The ward is home to the Kimbiji Ruins a National Historic Site. Kimbiji is named after said Medieval Swahili settlement in the ward. According to the 2002 census, the ward has a total population of 6,411. Muhembo
Muhembo (Swahili ''Magofu ya Muhembo'') is a Swahili monumental ruin that is National Historic Site located in northern part of Pangani town's Pangani Mashariki ward in Pangani District of Tanga Region, Tanzania. The site is home to damaged Medieval Swahili ruins that have yet to be excavated since 1981. Other minor sites in the viciinity of Muhembo include; Gombero, Mtakani, Muhembo, Mnyongeni, and Kumbamtoni. Overview Archaeological exploration around Pangani Bay has shown that the location of old Pangani was different from where it is today as early as the 15th century. Tanga (''Jiji la Tanga'', in Swahili language, Swahili) is a historic city and the capital of Tanga Region. The city is located in the northern port city of Tanzania to the west of the Indian Ocean on Tanga Bay. Tanga Island
Tanga Island known during German East Africa as Toten Island in old colonial maps (Swahili ''Toten'', adapted from German ''Toteninsel'', meaning "Island of the Dead") is a small uninhabited and protected island situated north of the city of Tanga's harbour on Tanga Bay in Tanga Region, Tanzania. It is within the Tanga Bay. The island is located entirely with the Tanga Coelacanth Marine Park (TCMP). The island is administered by Tanzania Marine Parks and Reserves. Historical Site The island is a historical site that contains ruins of two Medieval Swahili mosques and tombs. The current name comes from the German word for "dead bodies" alluding to the numerous graves on the island. Until 1854 Toten Island was still inhabited by people.
