List Of Kazakhstani Submissions For The Academy Award For Best International Feature Film
Kazakhstan has submitted fourteen films in the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film category since gaining its independence from the USSR in 1991. In 2008, Kazakhstan received its first-ever Oscar nomination, for the epic Genghis Khan biography, Mongol. Kazakhstan shocked many Oscar prognosticators when the obscure Kelin was shortlisted in 2010 over better-known films for Italy, Korea, Norway and others. Ultimately, ''Kelin'' failed to reach the final five. Kazakhstan is so far the only Central Asian country to be nominated for an Academy Award. List Of Submissions To The 65th Academy Awards For Best Foreign Language Film
This is the list of the films submitted in 1992 to compete for the 65th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 65th Academy Awards, thirty-three films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The titles in bold were the five nominated films, which came from Belgium, Germany, Russia, Uruguay (which was later disqualified) and France. Ivan Passer
Ivan Passer (10 July 1933 – 9 January 2020) was a Czech film director and screenwriter, best known for his involvement in the Czechoslovak New Wave and for directing American films such as '' Born to Win'' (1971), '' Cutter's Way'' (1981) and ''Stalin'' (1992). Life and career Passer was born in Prague, the son of Marianna (Mandelick) and Alois Passer. Passer attended King George boarding school in Poděbrady with future filmmakers Miloš Forman, Jerzy Skolimowski and Paul Fierlinger and playwright Václav Havel. He then studied at FAMU in Prague, but did not finish the program. He began his career as an assistant director on Ladislav Helge's ''Velká samota''. Later he collaborated with his friend Forman on all of Forman's Czech films, including '' Loves of a Blonde'' (1965) and '' The Firemen's Ball'' (1967), both of which Passer co-wrote and which were nominated for Academy Awards. Akan Satayev
Akan Satayev (, born December 23, 1971) is a Kazakhstani film director, actor, screenwriter and producer. Honored Worker of Kazakhstan and laureate of State Award of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Biography Akan was born to a family of actors, both his parents were recognized as People's Artistes of the Kazakh SSR and performed leading roles at Karaganda Drama Theater where he spent a lot of time. That theater became his first drama school, and in 1994 Akan graduated from Kazakh National Academy of Arts, Dept of Cinema and Television. While at the university, he played student Azat, the main character in Allazhar, a movie by Kaldybay Abenov about Jeltoqsan, tragic events in Alma-Ata in December 1986. After graduation, Akan took part in various feature films and went into directing and producing advertising clips.
