Buendía made his debut on 14 August 2021, in a 3–2 away loss to Watford on the opening day of the
2021–22 season. He scored his first goal for Villa on 28 August 2021, in a 1–1 draw at home to Brentford in the Premier League.
On 9 August 2023, on the eve of the Premier League season, Buendía suffered what was described as a "significant knee injury" in training and would require a scan and treatment from a specialist. The injury was confirmed to be
