The 2021–22 Premier League season was Aston Villa's 147th season 2021–22 in English football, in English football. It was Aston Villa F.C., the club's 27th season in the Premier League, their third consecutive, and their 108th season at the top flight of English football. Along with the league, the club also competed in the 2021–22 FA Cup, FA Cup, being eliminated by Chelsea F.C., Chelsea in the third round, and the 2021–22 EFL Cup, EFL Cup, where they were eliminated by Manchester United in the third round. The season covers the period from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. On 5 August, captain Jack Grealish left the club and signed for Manchester City for £100 million, a record fee between two British clubs. On 7 November, manager Dean Smith (footballer, born 1971), Dean Smith was sacked and replaced by Steven Gerrard four days later.
