On 26 September 2009, Douglas scored his second league goal of the season, in a 2–1 win over VVV-Venlo. Douglas established himself in the first team and throughout the season, he continued to top the league in the latter part of the season, holding off the likes of renowned competitors PSV and Ajax. Eventually, the club was later crowned champions of Eredivisie for the first time in its history after beating NAC Breda 2–0 in the last game of the season despite not playing, due to suspension.
