Ólína Þorvarðardóttir
Ólína Kjerúlf Þorvarðardóttir (born 8 September 1958) was a member of the Althing, representing the Social Democratic Alliance for the Northwest Constituency from 2009 to 2016. Life and career Ólína has been an active scholar in social Sciences, a principal of the Junior College of Ísafjörður ( Menntaskólinn á Ísafirði) from 2001 to 2006; and lecturer at the University of Iceland (Folklore, Icelandic literature) from 1992 to 2000. Before participating in politics, Ólína worked as a journalist, reporter and TV-anchor at the State Broadcasting Station (RÚV) from 1987 to 1990. Ólína has published several books and articles on political and social matters. She is an active rescue team volunteer for Slysavarnafélagið Landsbjörg where she specializes in training and working with rescue dogs. Reykjavík
Reykjavík ( ; ) is the capital and largest city of Iceland. It is located in southwestern Iceland, on the southern shore of Faxaflói bay. Langjökull
Langjökull (, Icelandic for "long glacier") is the second largest ice cap in Iceland (953 km2), after Vatnajökull. It is situated in the west of the Icelandic interior or Highlands of Iceland and can be seen clearly from Haukadalur. Its volume is 195 km³ and the ice is up to thick. The highest point of the ice cap (at ''Baldjökull'' at the northern end of Langjökull) is about above sea level. In the past, the largest recorded surface area was in 1840. Situation and form The glacier is roughly parallel to the direction of the country's active volcanic zone: north-east to south-west. It is about long and wide, and has a slightly narrower point roughly between the lake Hvítárvatn on the Kjölur mountain road to the east and the Þrístapajökull glacier to the west, near another smaller glacier, Eiríksjökull, which is not quite connected to Langjökull. ''Ingibjörg'', a ship of Slysavarnarfélagið Landsbjörg, at port in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland Slysavarnarfélagið Landsbjörg or the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) is a national association of rescue units and accident prevention divisions. Its member organizations consist of 99 rescue units, 70 accident prevention and women's divisions and 50 youth sections. Altogether the association has about 10,000 volunteer members and are present in most towns. Although the rescue teams function as a kind of public service, they are not supported or paid for by the government but by donation.
