Ágúst Sigurður Björgvinsson (born 16 January 1979) is an Icelandic professional basketball coach who last coached Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild karla club Valur men's basketball, Valur. He was the head coach of the Iceland women's national basketball team, Icelandic women's national basketball team from 2007 to 2009 and won back-to-back national championships with Haukar women's basketball, Haukar women's team in 2006 and 2007. Ágúst Þór Jóhannsson (born 19 February 1977) is an Icelandic team handball coach and a former player. Coaching career Club career In 1998, Ágúst took over as head coach of the joint Grótta/KR women's team for the rest of the 1997-1998 season after Andrés Gunnlaugsson was fired. After serving as an assistant coach to the Grótta/KR men's team for the 1998-1999 season, he was hired as the head coach of Valur women's team in May 1999. Under his watch the team won the Icelandic Women's Handball Cup but was knocked out in the Final 8 in the national championship playoffs after losing to Fimmleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar. He resigned from hist post after the season to take over as the head coach of the Iceland women's national handball team. He returned to Valur in 2001 after one year with the national team to serve as an assistant coach to both the men's and women's teams. Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson (; born 22 September 1976) is a founding member of the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós. He was the band's drummer from their creation in August 1994 until he quit in 1999 after the band finished '' Ágætis byrjun''. Ágúst Guðmundsson (born 29 June 1947) is an Icelandic film director and screenwriter. He studied French, Icelandic in Reykjavík and filmmaking at the National Film School in London. He has made many popular Icelandic films that have also been translated into other languages. His 1998 film '' The Dance'' was entered into the 21st Moscow International Film Festival where he won the Silver St. George for Best Director. Ágúst Gylfason
Ágúst Gylfason (born 1 August 1971) is an Icelandic football manager and a former player. He was manager of Breiðablik until 2019, when he became manager of Grótta's men's football team. Club career Ágúst started his career at Valur before moving to SK Brann in Norway. He returned to Iceland after three years to play for Fram. While playing for Valur, he worked as a carpenter and studied business administration. He was also married and had a son in early 1994. Ágúst came on trial in November 1994 together with Geoff Aunger. Brann's Anders Giske travelled to Iceland to negotiate a transfer with Valur. The deal included stipulation of a free transfer to an Icelandic club if Ágúst could not adapt to Norway. The personal contract was ready and signed on 4 January 1995. After Ágúst's time in Brann had run its course, he had a trial with Tranmere Rovers in 1998. Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson (born 26 August 1969) is an Icelandic solo artist and a lead singer of the bands GusGus, Nýdönsk and Esja. Biography Daníel has been part of the local and international music scene since he started his career with Icelandic pop sensation Nýdönsk some 30 years ago. In 1989, he participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 for Iceland with the song "Það sem enginn sér". He finished in 22nd place, scoring no points. After releasing 5 albums with Nýdönsk, he produced an album with electronic rock group Bubbleflies. He then branched out into acting in the National and Municipal theatres, playing roles in West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar (Pontius Pilate) and Stone Free. Ágúst Pálsson (3 October 1893 – 25 November 1967) was an Icelandic architect. His notable works include Neskirkja (built 1952–1957), which is often considered the first modern church in Iceland. His design caused controversy. Jónas Jónsson, Jónas Jónsson frá Hriflu, one of Iceland's most influential political figures, used the design of the church as a key example as to why modern architecture had no place in Iceland, and why the more traditional and Icelandic nationalist style of Guðjón Samúelsson was superior. The Neskirkja Planning Committee sought out the view of renowned Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen to assess the architectural style of the building; Saarinen praised the design. In 1997, several architects and experts on architecture placed Neskirkja on their list of the ten most beautiful buildings in Iceland.
