Ellen Marie Vars
Ellen Marie Vars (born 12 August 1957) is a Norwegian Sami writer. She was born in Láhpoluoppal in Kautokeino Municipality. She made her literary debut in 1986 with the youth novel ''Kátjá '', which came to be among the most read Sami books in Norway. Her novel ''Čábbámus iđitguovssu'' earned her the Saami Council Literature Prize in 2005. ''Čábbámus iđitguovssu'' has been translated into English as ''The most beautiful dawn'', and illustrated by Trygve Lund Guttormsen Trygve is a masculine given name most common in Norway. Henry Vars
Henry Vars (born Henryk Warszawski; December 29, 1902 September 1, 1977) was a Polish-American composer, arranger and conductor whose compositions spanned popular, jazz and classical genres. He is regarded as the most important musical theatre, pop and film music composer of the interwar Poland. Known in Poland as Henryk Wars, he is widely considered a pioneer of Polish jazz with his first composition "New York Times" (1927) being regarded as the very first jazz song in the history of Polish music. His other jazz and pop songs from the period include "Miłość ci wszystko wybaczy" (1933), "Umówiłem się z nią na dziewiątą", "Sex appeal" (both from 1937), "Ach, jak przyjemnie" and "Już nie zapomnisz mnie" (both from 1939). John De Vars Hazard
John de Vars Hazard MC (18 August 1888 – 12 June 1968) was a British Army officer and mountaineer who took part in the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition, most famous for the disappearance of the mountaineers George Mallory and Andrew "Sandy" Irvine. Biography Born on 18 August 1888, John de Vars Hazard spent much of his childhood in France and was educated at Bedford School before going on to study engineering. In his youth he took part in pioneering climbs in the Lake District, and made the first ascent of Great Gable's Abbey Buttress at Easter 1909. He joined the Royal Artillery and served in the First World War, during which he fought at the Battle of the Somme in 1916, as second in command to Henry Morshead, and was awarded the Military Cross. Morshead took part in the 1921 British Mount Everest reconnaissance expedition and the 1922 British Mount Everest expedition, and recommended that Hazard should be a member of the 1924 British Mount Everest expedition. Laila Susanne Vars is a Norwegian-Sami human rights lawyer and former politician. Elected rector of Sámi University of Applied Sciences 2019-2023. First Sámi woman to achieve a PhD in Law. Vars is appointed by the Governmemnt of Sweden, Ministry of Culture as Commissioner of thTruth Commission for the Sámi People in Sweden She is former research director at the Norwegian National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) and former Expert member of the United Nations' Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) 2017-2023. She led the Sami Árja party from 2008 to 2010, and was vice president of the Sami Parliament of Norway from 2009 to 2013. Vars is a compact rural community in Osgoode Ward in the east end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. According to the Canada 2021 Census, the population of Vars was 1,579,Population calculated by combining Dissemination Areas 35061119, 35061120 and 35061121 using the boundaries defined in the Vars neighbourhood planning study area. Facilities Vars has St-Guillaume, a French elementary school, two churches (one Anglican (closed, last service November 18 2024,) one Roman Catholic,) and Alcide Trudeau Park. Col De Vars
The Col de Vars, elevation 2108 m (6916 ft) is a high mountain pass in the Alps between the departments of Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in France. It connects the Ubaye Valley with the Queyras valley and Embrun, Hautes-Alpes, Embrun. It is traversed by highway D 902, which leads from Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye in the southeast to Vars, Hautes-Alpes, Vars and on to Guillestre in the northwest. The pass has been included in the Tour de France 33 times since 1922, when Philippe Thys (cyclist), Philippe Thys crossed the pass for the first time.
