TobyMac
Kevin Michael McKeehan (born October 22, 1964), better known by his stage name TobyMac (styled tobyMac), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. His road band is known as Diverse City. Widely regarded as one of the most influential Christian artists of all time, he was as a member of the Christian hip-hop, Christian rap-Christian rock, rock trio DC Talk, staying with them from 1987 until they went on hiatus in 2000. ''Momentum'' is the debut solo studio album from American recording artist TobyMac. It was released on November 6, 2001, through ForeFront Records. The album was well received and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Gospel Album in 2003. It contains a message of tolerance and diversity in society. Musically it has an urban pop sound which ''HM Magazine'' described as containing shadows of early DC Talk material. In 2003, '' Re:Mix Momentum'' was released. Background In the later months of 2000, DC Talk, announced plans to take a hiatus. In November an album, '' Intermission: The Greatest Hits'', was released to commemorate the break. Following this, an extended play titled ''Solo was'' released on April 24, 2001, implying that solo careers were impending. Portable Sounds
''Portable Sounds'' (stylized as (portable sounds)) is the third full-length studio album from Christian hip hop artist tobyMac. Released on February 20, 2007, the album serves as a follow-up to his 2004 album, '' Welcome to Diverse City''. The album debuted at No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The album includes the singles " Lose My Soul", " Made to Love", "Boomin'", " I'm for You", and "One World (featuring Siti Monroe)". ''Portable Sounds'' took a slightly different direction than tobyMac's previous hip hop efforts, having more of a pop sound. When it was released on iTunes, users were able to download a behind-the-scenes making of the album video, a digital booklet, and an acoustic version of "Made to Love". Made To Love
"Made to Love" is a song by contemporary Christian singer tobyMac from his third album, ''Portable Sounds''. It was released as the album's lead single on December 26, 2006. This was also included on the compilation album, ''WOW Hits 2008''. Music and lyrics TobyMac wrote this song yes for the people to realize we were made to love God, but more so TobyMac telling his story. The first lines he says are very empowering, he states "''The dream is fading, now I'm staring at the door I know it's over cause my feet have hit the cold floor'' " Toby is realizing he lost that flame, that desire to live for God, that he felt too far gone (preview). Eye'm All Mixed Up
''Eye on It'' is the sixth studio album by TobyMac, released on August 28, 2012. A deluxe version of the album was also released. The album experiments more with electronic music, primarily dubstep. " Me Without You" was released as the first single from the album on June 12, 2012. The album won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards. Critical reception ''Eye on It'' received mostly positive reviews from critics. Kim Jones of About.com rated the album four out of five stars, praising TobyMac's ability to provide fresh new music while staying true to his Christian base. ''This Is Not a Test'' (stylized as ''***THIS IS NOT A TEST***'') is the seventh studio album by American recording artist TobyMac. The album was released on August 7, 2015. It debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200. In February 2016, it won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. The standard edition was released with 11 tracks, including "Feel It", "Beyond Me", and "Move (Keep Walkin')". The deluxe edition was released with 15 tracks, including "Lift You Up" featuring Ryan Stevenson (American musician), Ryan Stevenson, "Fall", and "Beyond Me" and "Like A Match" remixes by Soul Glow Activatur and David Garcia (musician), David Garcia respectively. ''Tonight'' is the fourth full-length solo album by Christian hip hop artist TobyMac. It is the follow-up album to his 2007 release ''Portable Sounds'', and was released on February 5, 2010. The Deluxe Version of the album contains a DVD with interviews with Toby about the songs on the record, the making of this record and an inside look at the Diverse City Band. The album debuted at No. 6 on the ''Billboard'' 200, selling 79,000 units in its first week. As of early November 2010, the album has sold over 315,000 copies. The album was announced on January 10, 2025, and was released on March 7, 2025 on Forefront Records and Capitol CMG. The album's first single, "Nothin' Sweeter", reached No. 6 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Christian Songs chart, and spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart. Background ''Heaven on My Mind'' is inspired partially by the death of tobyMac's son, Truett McKeehan. The song "Goodbye (For Gabe)" is a tribute to his touring member and occasional studio collaborator, Gabe Patillo, who died of cancer in April of 2024. ''Christmas in Diverse City'' is TobyMac's first full-length Christmas album as well as his fifth studio album. It was released on October 4, 2011. A re-release of the album, excluding a few tracks and including two new tracks 'Bring On The Holidays' and 'Can't Wait For Christmas' featuring Relient K was released in 2017 under the name 'Light Of Christmas'. Critical reception ''Christmas in Diverse City'' garnered a positive reception from music critics. At ''CCM Magazine'', Grace S. Aspinwall rated the album four stars and called the album "a fun-filled romp through holiday magic." Renovating Diverse City
''Renovating Diverse City'' (stylized ''Renovating→Diverse City'') is the second remix album released by Christian recording artist tobyMac. All the tracks are remixes of songs from tobyMac's previous CD, '' Welcome to Diverse City'', with the exception of two original songs. Some remixes include new or revised pieces of the original song (ILL-M-I's original chorus doesn't appear until the final chorus, for instance). Several other Christian artists make appearances on this CD, including DJ Maj, Paul Wright, Tricia Brock of Superchick, and Toby's son Truett as "truDog". The Catchafire remix was once in the Top 5 songs on Christian-HipHop.net and, since it became as popular as it did, is often mistaken for the original mix of Catchafire.
