Boxing After Dark
''Boxing After Dark'' is an HBO boxing program, premiered on February 3, 1996, that usually showed fights between well-known contenders, but usually not "championship" or "title" fights. Unlike its sister program, ''HBO World Championship Boxing'', ''BAD'' featured fighters who were usually moving up from ESPN's ''Friday Night Fights'' or another basic cable boxing program. This was where fighters were given their start to become famous depending on how well they fare on ''BAD'' they might have a title fight on ''World Championship Boxing'' or could fall back (Ex: Jason Litzau had many entertaining fights on ESPN before moving up to ''BAD'' to face Jose Hernandez. HBO World Championship Boxing
''HBO World Championship Boxing'' (in later years stylized in its title card as ''HBO Boxing – World Championship'') is an American sports television series on premium television network HBO. It premiered on January 22, 1973, with a fight that saw George Foreman defeat Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica. HBO's pay-per-view distribution arm, TVKO was founded in December 1990, and then launched in April 1991 with Evander Holyfield vs. George Foreman, becoming HBO PPV in 2001. On February 3, 1996, HBO debuted a spin-off program, ''Boxing After Dark'', with the fight between Marco Antonio Barrera and Kennedy McKinney as its inaugural telecast. Thomas Hauser
Thomas C. Hauser (born February 27, 1946) is an American author known for his biographies and novels and writing about boxing. Biography Hauser graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1963, Columbia College in 1967 and Columbia Law School in 1970. He made his debut as a writer in 1978 with ''The Execution of Charles Horman: An American Sacrifice''. Horman's wife, Joyce Horman, and his parents, Edmund and Elizabeth Horman, cooperated with Hauser on the book which described both Charle's fate and his family's quest to uncover the truth about his death in Chile in the aftermath of the 1973 coup that overthrew Chilean President Salvador Allende. The book was adapted as Costa-Gavras's 1982 film '' Missing'', starring Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek. Superfly was a series of professional boxing cards centered around the super flyweight division. History The concept was created by promoter Tom Loeffler and has been broadcast on HBO Boxing After Dark. Al Haymon (born April 21, 1955) is an American businessman and boxing manager. He was the manager of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and has won the Boxing Writers of America Manager of the Year Award five times. Early life Haymon was raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and studied economics at Harvard. He also has an MBA from Harvard.
