''The Adventures of Alyx'' is a 1976 collection of feminist science fiction stories by American writer Joanna Russ, initially entitled ''Alyx'' by Gregg Press in hardback without a dustjacket. It was published in 1983 with the title ''The Adventures of Alyx'' by Timescape Books. It is composed of five stories: * "Bluestocking" (1967, as "The Adventuress" in ''Orbit 2'') begins in the fantasy city of Ourdh. Alyx is hired by a young noblewoman to help the latter escape from an arranged marriage. * "I Thought She Was Afeard Till She Stroked My Beard" (1967, as "I Gave Her Sack and Sherry" in ''Orbit 2'') describes Alyx's escape from an abusive marriage to become a pirate. * "The Barbarian" (1968 in ''Orbit 3'') takes place again in Ourdh. Alyx Vance
Alyx Vance is a fictional character from Valve's ''Half-Life'' video game series. She is introduced as a non-playable, supporting character in '' Half-Life 2'' (2004), accompanying the player's character, Gordon Freeman, throughout much of the game. She subsequently appears in a similar capacity in '' Half-Life 2: Episode One'' (2006) and '' Episode Two'' (2007), and as the titular protagonist of the VR game '' Half-Life: Alyx'' (2020). Alyx is portrayed as a young woman in her mid-twenties of Afro-Asian descent, and is a prominent figure in the human resistance against the rule of the alien empire called the Combine and their human representative, Dr. Wallace Breen.
