Zwijndrecht () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands. It is in the province of South Holland, at the southern tip of the island of IJsselmonde, and at the confluence of the rivers Oude Maas, Beneden-Merwede, and Noord. Population The town of Zwijndrecht is one of the "Drecht" cities. Part of the suburban zone south of Rotterdam, it has grown from around 6,000 inhabitants in 1960, to about 45,000 today. Since 2003, the municipality of Zwijndrecht also includes the villages of Heerjansdam and Kleine-Lindt. It had a population of in . Beneden-Merwede
The Beneden Merwede (; "Lower Merwede") is a stretch of river in the Netherlands, mainly fed by the river Rhine. It starts as the continuation of the Boven Merwede after the branching-off of the Nieuwe Merwede ship canal. It flows from Hardinxveld-Giessendam to Dordrecht, where it splits into the Noord and Oude Maas rivers. Its length is 14.8 km. The river is part of the main shipping route between the port of Rotterdam and the industrial region of the Ruhr, Germany. The Evangelical Theological Academy (Dutch: ''Evangelische Theologische Academie'', ETA) is a Dutch interdenominational institute for evangelical theological education, in Zwijndrecht, Netherlands. The ETA was founded in 1985 by five theologically educated evangelical Christians, who were inspired by the growing demand for theological schooling through part-time or distance education. Heerjansdam () is a village in the western Netherlands, in the municipality of Zwijndrecht, Netherlands, Zwijndrecht, South Holland. It has a population of 3,590. History It was originally called "''Heren Heyenland''", a name which first appeared in a document from 1323. In 1331, Hendrik of Brederode started to build dikes around the Zwijndrechtse Waard. This project was financed by eight other persons, including Jan of Rosendaele, who subsequently were made landlords of the Waard.
