European Bison
The European bison (: bison) (''Bison bonasus'') or the European wood bison, also known as the wisent ( or ), the zubr (), or sometimes colloquially as the European buffalo, is a European species of bison. It is one of two extant species of bison, alongside the American bison. The European bison is the heaviest wild land animal in Europe, and individuals in the past may have been even larger than their modern-day descendants. During late antiquity and the Middle Ages, bison became extinct in much of Europe and Asia, surviving into the 20th century only in northern-central Europe and the northern Caucasus Mountains. During the early years of the 20th century, bison were hunted to extinction in the wild. By the late 2010s, the species numbered several thousand and had been returned to the wild by captive breeding programmes. Fotbal Club Zimbru Chișinău, commonly known as Zimbru Chișinău or simply Zimbru, is a Moldovan professional Association football, football club based in Chișinău, which competes in the Moldovan Liga, Liga, the highest tier of Football in Moldova, Moldovan football. Founded in the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1947, Zimbru entered the Soviet Top League in 1956 and totaled eleven participations before their last relegation in 1983. The club remained the leader of Moldovan football during most of the Soviet period and was the only one that reached and played at the Soviet top tier. After the independence of Moldova in 1991, the team established itself as an early force in the country, winning all the first five national titles and eight of the first nine, but have not won since. The Zimbru Stadium () is a football-specific stadium in Chișinău, Moldova, completed in May 2006 with a capacity of 10,104 people, meeting all norms required by UEFA and FIFA for national and international matches. Starting from June 2016, the Moldovan Football Federation took over the administration of Zimbru Stadium for a period of 10 years. Through this decision, the FMF assumed responsibility towards international football structures to modernize the stadium, ensuring that it meets all the necessary conditions for organizing matches in the international football tournament preliminaries held in Chișinău. Construction The construction of the sports complex on Dacia Boulevard began in 2004. The project for the future facility was developed by the staff of the Ceproserving Institute.
