Zeynep GedizlioÄŸlu
Zeynep Gedizlioğlu (born 4 December 1977) is a Turkish composer who won the Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize Award in 2012. Biography Zeynep Gedizlioğlu was born 4 December 1977 in İzmir and grew up in Istanbul. She has spent most of her life in Istanbul and Berlin. Her mother is the actress Şahika Tekand and her father, Levent Gedizlioğlu, is an architect. Gedizlioğlu attended the Istanbul Conservatory. She went on to study in Saarbrücken, Strasbourg and Karlsruhe. Over the years she has learned composition from such people as Cengiz Tanç, İlhan Usmanbaş, Theo Brandmüller and Wolfgang Rihm. Gedizlioğlu has had her music appear and be performed by philharmonic orchestra all over Europe. She has a number of CDs released with her music. Wolfgang Rihm
Wolfgang Rihm (; 13 March 1952 – 27 July 2024) was a German composer of contemporary classical music and an academic teacher based in Karlsruhe. He was an influential post-war European composer, as "one of the most original and independent musical voices" there, composing over 500 works including several operas. The premiere of Rihm's ''Morphonie'' for orchestra at the 1974 Donaueschingen Festival won him international recognition. Rihm pursued a freedom of expression, combining avant-garde techniques with emotional individuality. His chamber opera ''Jakob Lenz (opera), Jakob Lenz'' was premiered in 1977, exploring the inner conflict of a poet's soul. İlhan Usmanbaş (23 October 1921 – 30 January 2025) was a Turkish contemporary classical composer who was trained and recognised internationally. He was of the "second generation" of Turkish composers, who integrated European techniques into Turkish music. He served as director of first the Ankara State Conservatory and then the Istanbul State Conservatory, influencing generations of students.
