Zdeněk Štěpánek
Zdeněk Štěpánek (22 September 1896 – 20 June 1968) was a Czech actor. He appeared in 65 films between 1922 and 1968. Life In 1915 Zdeněk Štěpánek joined Austro-Hungarian Army and fought at the Eastern Front. He later switched sides and joined Czechoslovak Legion, in which he participated in the Russian Civil War. He was evacuated through Vladivostok and he returned to Czechoslovakia in 1920. From 1934 he was front-actor of the National Theatre in Prague. He was also member of Czechoslovak Masonic Lodge in Prague. The central motif of the film is the escalation of the situation in Bohemia after the burning of master Jan Hus and the popular revolt against the papal authority and against the new King Sigismund. ''Jan Hus '' is a 1954 Czechoslovakia, Czechoslovak film about Jan Hus, an early Christian reformer. It is the first part of the "Hussite Revolutionary Trilogy", one of the most famous works of Otakar Vávra, completed with ''Jan Žižka (1955 film), Jan Žižka'' (1955) and ''Against All'' (1956). Plot The opening part is set in 1412. It portrays the suffering of the poor working on the Church of Our Lady before Týn, Týn Temple in Prague. It shows their struggles with rich townspeople and stingy church dignitaries collecting indulgences. The Emperor And The Golem
''The Emperor and the Golem'' (, literally "The Emperor′s Baker and Baker′s Emperor") is a two-part Czechoslovak historical fantasy comedy film produced in 1951. The film was shot in color (not common for Czechoslovak films in that period) because of the international release and is set during the reign of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia (1583–1611) and takes place in Late Renaissance (Mannerist) Prague. It is one of the best known films of Jan Werich, who's performing a dual role of Emperor Rudolf and baker Matěj. The movie is still quite popular in Czech society, especially due to catchy songs (albeit with some leftist/communist flavour) and the impressive portrait of the Golem, a mythical anthropomorphic robot-like creature allegedly once made from clay by a local rabbi. ''Lost in the Suburbs'' (, alternative English title: ''Homecoming'') is a 1948 Czechoslovak drama film starring Karel Höger about soldiers returning from World War II. Based on the story written by Leopold Lahola the movie was directed by Martin Frič. Though some critics are ranking this movie among Top 10 of Frič's fruitfull filmography, at the time of its release the film met mostly negative reviews and even today is still ignored by publishers as well as by public.
