Zdeněk Kudrna
Zdeněk Kudrna (2 September 1946 – 1 June 1982) was a Czech speedway rider. He reached the Speedway World Championship final in 1979 and also finished third in the Individual Ice Racing World Championship twice, in 1977 and 1979. Kudrna was Czech Ice Racing champion six times, after the last of which he was awarded title ''Sportsman of the Year'' by the Czech Motorcycle Federation. Career In 1974, he represented his country in a test series against England. Kudrna was subject to several failed signing attempts with Cradley Heath Heathens and Bristol Bulldogs when he was due to race in Britain for the 1978 season. He eventually rode in the UK for the Exeter Falcons in 1979 with compatriots Aleš Dryml Sr., Jan Verner and Václav Verner. The Czech Republic national speedway team is one of the major teams in international motorcycle speedway. History As Czechoslovakia The Czechoslovakia speedway team (which consisted predominantly of Czech Republic riders) competed in the inaugural Speedway World Team Cup during the 1960 Speedway World Team Cup and won the bronze medal after finishing third in the final. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1960 until their final World Cup in 1992. They reached the final on fourteen occasions, winning the silver medal in 1963 and two more bronze medals in 1977 and 1979. The 1980 Speedway World Team Cup was the 21st edition of the FIM Speedway World Team Cup to determine the team world champions. The final took place at the Vojens Speedway Center in Denmark. Jiří Štancl
Jiří Štancl (born 18 November 1949) is a Czech former international motorcycle speedway rider. He earned 39 international caps for the Czechoslovakia national speedway team. Career Štancl was born on 18 November 1949 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He reached the final of the Speedway World Championship on nine occasions between 1971 and 1984, finishing a career best 9th in 1982 in Los Angeles. He won the Czechoslovak National Championship twelve times, has appeared in the World Team Cup finals on seven occasions and in the Speedway World Pairs Championship finals seven times. In 1974, he represented his country in a test series against England. This was also the first time that he reached the world longtrack final. He would go on to compete in 12 consecutive finals. The Silesian Stadium (; Polish: ) is a sport stadium located on the premises of Silesian Park in Chorzów, Poland. The stadium has a fully covered capacity of 54,378, after refurbishment completed in October 2017. The stadium hosted many Poland national football team matches and for many decades was Poland's national stadium. 1979 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1979 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 34th edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. In his 14th straight World Final appearance (dating back to 1966), New Zealand's Ivan Mauger won his 6th Speedway World Championship, breaking the previous record of 5 wins held by himself and legendary Swede Ove Fundin. Mauger scored 14 points to defeat local favourite Zenon Plech (13) and young English tearaway Michael Lee (11), with Lee the only rider to defeat Mauger on the day. Lee also had to defeat Kelly Moran (USA), Billy Sanders (Australia) and defending champion Ole Olsen in a runoff for third after all four riders finished on 11 points.
