Zaïko Langa Langa
Zaïko Langa Langa, also known as Zaïko Langa Langa Nkolo Mboka, is a Congolese Congolese rumba, rumba band formed in Kinshasa, in December 1969. Established by D. V. Moanda, D.V. Moanda, Henri Mongombe, Marcellin Delo and André Bita, the band evolved from the Orchestre Bel Guide National, which is seen as Zaïko's predecessor. Listed as part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo's cultural heritage, Zaïko Langa Langa is one of Africa's most influential band and has contributed to the evolution and innovation of Congolese rumba during the 1970s, popularizing distinctive elements including variances in Percussion instrument, percussive Tempo, pacing, snare drum utilization (cavacha rhythm), the Sébène, sebene guitar technique, and a performance assemblage comprising atalaku, a harmonized choir, and a soloist. Nippon Banzai is a 1986 studio album by Congolese band Zaïko Langa Langa, released on their ProZal label. The album followed band's pioneering tour of Japan in October 1986, positioning them as the second Congolese musical collective to perform in the country, after Papa Wemba and his band Viva La Musica, who had toured Japan earlier that same year. ''Nippon Banzai'' is widely regarded as Zaïko Langa Langa's most significant artistic and commercial success, propelling the band to unprecedented international recognition across regions including Europe and the West Indies. Quartier Latin International (QLI), or Quartier Latin, is a soukous band from the Democratic Republic of the Congo established in 1986. Location The band was formed in 1986 in Kinshasa. It plays in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other African countries, and often tours in Europe and North America. Overview The band was founded by its leader, composer, guitarist, vocalist, dancer and entertainer, Koffi Olomide. The band performs both in Lingala and French languages. Choc Stars
The Choc Stars are a soukous band from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The band was founded in 1983 by Ben Nyamabo, and has since published over 50 albums. Langa Langa Stars were a popular DR Congo soukous band in the 1980s. The band had the peculiarity of featuring as much as seven lead vocalists, nicknamed the "6 Patrons of Langa Langa Stars". Viva La Musica
Viva La Musica is a popular band from Zaire (now DR Congo) founded by singer Papa Wemba in 1977. While Viva La Musica started out as a soukous band (essentially a spin-off of Zaiko Langa Langa), it eventually grew into a world music act, reaching some popularity and success in the European, American, and even Asian markets, as well as in most of Africa. The band is still active today, although it is just one of a number of musical ensembles used by Papa Wemba as a backup for his essentially soloist production. Isifi Lokole
{{unreferenced, date=May 2019 Isifi Lokole (later known as Isifi Melodia) were a soukous band from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They were founded in 1974. The word "Isifi" is an acronym for "Institut du Savoir Ideologique pour la Formation des Idoles", while the ''lokole'' is a traditional Congolese drum. Since Isifi Lokole was mostly composed of former Zaiko Langa Langa members, it is sometimes said to be in the so-called "Langa Langa Clan". History Isifi Lokole were a creation of Papa Wemba, who left Zaiko Langa Langa in the mid-1970s together with Evoloko Jocker, Mavuela Somo and Bozi Boziana. Evoloko Jocker
Evoloko Atshuamo, best known as Evoloko Jocker (sometimes spelled Joker) or Lay Lay, is a popular Congolese soukous singer. Since the late 1960s, he has been in several major soukous bands, such as Zaiko Langa Langa, Isifi Lokole, and Langa Langa Stars. Biography Evoloko was born in Belgian Congo (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). He began his career in Zaiko Langa Langa, one of the biggest Congolese soukous bands, in 1969. His talent was so enthusiastically acclaimed by the public that he quickly became the frontman and band leader. Along with other musicians including Papa Wemba, Mavuela Somo, Gina Efonge, they created '' cavacha'', a sound and dance style that became a trademark of Zaiko and a craze in East Africa in the 1970s. He wrote the best song of the year in 1973 (Onassis Ya Zaire) and again in 1974 (Eluzam).
