Zacarías Yanzi
Zacarías Antonio Yanzi (February 1801August 1888) was an Argentine soldier and politician who participated in the war of independence and served briefly as Governor of San Juan Province. Early years Zacarías Yanzi was born in Salta, then in the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, in February 1801. He joined the Northern Army in 1815, and two years later joined the gaucho troops of Martín Miguel de Güemes. He fought royalist invasions on several occasions. In 1821, when Güemes was wounded during the last major invasion, he helped him to escape from his pursuers and stayed with him until he died. He went to San Ramón de la Nueva Orán, where he was taken prisoner by the Royalists in 1831. Yanzi spent three years in jail before being freed when Antonio José de Sucre invaded Upper Peru. San Juan Province, Argentina
San Juan Province () is a Provinces of Argentina, province of Argentina, located in the western part of the country. San Luis () is the capital city of San Luis Province in the Cuyo, Argentina, Cuyo region of Argentina. It is also the seat of the Juan Martín de Pueyrredón Department. Manuel José Gómez Rufino
Manuel José Gómez Rufino (c. 1820–1882) was an Argentine politician who was governor of San Juan Province, Argentina between 1857 and 1858 and again between 1873 and 1874. The province of San Juan Manuel José Gómez Rufino was born in the city of San Juan, Argentina around 1820. In his youth he was a merchant and was not involved in politics, apart from a certain sympathy for the pharmacist Amán Rawson and his friends in the Unitarian Party. After the Battle of Caseros (3 February 1852), in which the dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas was defeated by Justo José de Urquiza, Gómez became a prominent member of the Unitarian Party. He participated in the revolution against the ''caudillo'' Governor Nazario Benavídez in May 1852, which brought to power the Colonel Zacarías Yanzi. Domingo Faustino Sarmiento
Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (15 February 1811 – 11 September 1888) was President of Argentina from 1868 to 1874. He was a member of a group of intellectuals, known as the '' Generation of 1837'', who had a great influence on 19th-century Argentina. He was particularly concerned with educational issues and was also an important influence on the region's literature. His works spanned a wide range of genres and topics, from journalism to autobiography, to political philosophy and history. Sarmiento grew up in a poor but politically active family that paved the way for many of his future accomplishments. Between 1843 and 1850, he was frequently in exile, and wrote in both Chile and in Argentina. La Rioja (), officially Province of La Rioja is a province of Argentina located in the west of the country.
