Yahaya Abdulkarim
Malam Yahaya Abdulkarim (born 21 August 1944) is a Nigerian politician who was governor of Sokoto State, between January 1992 and November 1993, during General Ibrahim Babangida's attempted transition to democracy. After the return to democracy in 1999, he became a power in the Zamfara State branch of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), and served for a while in the cabinet of president Olusegun Obasanjo. Early career Yahaya Abdulkarim was born on 21 August 1944 in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State. His father was a Native Authority officer. He joined the civil service of the North-Western State as a teacher, and held various positions before retiring in 1989 as Director-General in the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning of Sokoto State. Sani Abacha
Sani Abacha (20 September 1943 – 8 June 1998) was a Nigerian military officer and politician who ruled as the military head of state of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. He seized power on 17 November 1993 in the last successful coup d'etat in the military history of Nigeria. He was the Chief of Army Staff between 1985 to 1990; Chief of Defence Staff between 1990 to 1993; and Minister of Defence. Abacha became the first Nigerian Army officer to attain the rank of a full military general without skipping a single rank. His rule saw the achievement of several economic feats and also recorded human rights abuses and several political assassinations. Umaru Yar'Adua
Umaru Musa Yar'Adua (16 August 19515 May 2010) was a Nigerian politician who, was the President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010. He was declared the winner of the Nigerian presidential election held on 21 April 2007, and was sworn in on 29 May 2007. He served previously as the governor of Katsina state from 1999 to 2007; and was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2009, Yar'Adua left for Saudi Arabia to receive treatment for pericarditis. He returned to Nigeria on 24 February 2010, but died on 5 May. Aliyu Gusau
Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (born 18 May 1943) is a Nigerian general and statesman. He has held several high level national security, military and intelligence offices, and has participated in several military coups, playing a central role in founding the Fourth Nigerian Republic. He was most recently the Minister of Defence, and has served as National Security Adviser to three presidents; he was also the Chief of Army Staff during Ernest Shonekan and briefly Sani Abacha's regime, headed different intelligence agencies, and was commander of the Nigerian Defence Academy. Kingsley Adeseye Ogunlewe is a Nigerian from a royal family of Igbogbo and politician who was elected Senator on the Alliance for Democracy (AD) platform 1999 for the Lagos East constituency, before he defected to the PDP. The Niger Delta Development Commission is a federal government agency established by Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo in the year 2000 with the sole mandate of developing the oil-rich Niger Delta region of Nigeria. In September 2008, President Umaru Yar'Adua announced the formation of a Niger Delta Ministry, with the Niger Delta Development Commission to become a parastatal under the ministry. Abdu Gusau Polytechnic
Abdu Gusau Polytechnic is a State government polytechnic located in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State, Nigeria. History The polytechnic was established in 1992 after the former Governor of Sokoto State, Yahaya Abdulkarim signed a bill that established the 'Talata Mafara Polythecnic'. The Sokoto state government renamed the Polytechnic to 'Abdu Gusau Polytechnic' in February, 1995. This was done in honor of the late Engineer Abdu Gusau who died in November, 1994, in recognition of his contribution to the development of the State. Zamfara state of Nigeria was created by a Federal decree in 1996, and this necessitated the relocation of the polytechnic to a new permanent site in Talata Mafara. The Sokoto state government was no longer responsible for it, and it wasn't legally possible to have an institution belonging to Zamfara state located in Sokoto.
