''United by Fate'' is the debut album by American rock band Rival Schools. The album was produced by Grammy Award–winning producer Luke Ebbin. Background and recording Guitarist Walter Schreifels, formerly of Gorilla Biscuits, formed Quicksand in 1990; the band would later become influential in the post-hardcore genre. He released two albums with the group—''Slip'' (1992) and ''Manic Compression'' (1995)—before they broke up.
