Young Vivian
Mititaiagimene Young Vivian (born 12 November 1935) is a Niuean politician and diplomat, who served as Premier of Niue twice, the first time from December 1992 to March 1993 following the death of Sir Robert Rex, and the second from 2002 to 2008. He also served as a Cabinet Minister multiple times, first as Minister of Education, Economic Development and Agriculture and later as Minister of Finance under Robert Rex, and in the Cabinet of Sani Lakatani. From 1979 to 1982 he served as Secretary-General of the South Pacific Commission. Early life Vivian attended primary school on Niue, before going to New Zealand for his secondary education. He was educated at St George's Preparatory School in Wanganui from 1949, and then Wanganui Collegiate School as a boarder between 1951 and 1954. Auckland College Of Education
The Auckland College of Education, earlier known as the Auckland Training College and the Auckland Teachers' Training College, was a teachers' college in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city. It was established in 1881 and was based in the Auckland suburb of Epsom. In 2004, the College of Education amalgamated with the University of Auckland, merging with the university's School of Education to form the Faculty of Education, now the Faculty of Education and Social Work. History The Auckland Training College was first established in January 1881 but closed down several years later as a result of government cost-cutting. General elections were held in Niue on 21 March 2002 to determine the composition of the twenty member Assembly. All twenty outgoing members were re-elected, of which eight (all of them village representatives) were running unopposed. Voter turnout was close to 100%. The Niue People's Party obtained six seats, and was able to form a government with the support of eight independent members. The remaining six seats were also held by independents. Young Vivian ( NPP) became Premier. Sani Lakatani was his deputy. Atapana Siakimotu was elected Speaker. 1990 Niuean General Election
General elections were held in Niue on 7 April 1990, seven months after Cyclone Ofa caused considerable damage to the island. While primarily contested by independents, the election was contested by Young Vivian's Niue People's Action Party (NPAP), which was opposed to premier Robert Rex. On election night the NPAP believed it had a majority, but a leadership dispute between Vivian and newly-elected MP Sani Lakatani saw a group of MP's led by the latter switch sides. Following the election, Robert Rex was re-elected for a sixth term as Premier of Niue by a vote of 12 to 8. Sam Tagelagi was re-elected Speaker by the same margin.
