Prefecture, Central African Republic History On 21 August 2023, the experienced soldiers launched a protest by shooting into the air after they were ordered not to guard the checkpoint again in the strategic places where they gained money. The shooting caused panic among the locals, and they fled to the bush. In response to the protest, the village elders asked the FACA commander to leave Yawa. The commander left the village for Boda, and the shot ended. An unknown armed group attacked the FACA base in Yawa on 25 August 2023, and the soldiers repelled the attack. History On 29 January 2014 Anti-balaka took control of Boda following Seleka withdrawal. In September 2016 Boda was declared to be free from rebel groups. In August 2017 it was reported that the town was under control of security forces following withdrawal of international forces three months before. On 18 December 2020 Boda was captured by rebels from Coalition of Patriots for Change. It was recaptured by government forces on 24 January 2021. Central African Armed Forces
The Central African Armed Forces (french: Forces armées centrafricaines; FACA) are the armed forces of the Central African Republic and have been barely functional since the outbreak of the civil war in 2012. Today they are among the world's weakest armed forces, dependent on international support to provide security in the country. In recent years the government has struggled to form a unified national army. It consists of the Ground Force (which includes the air service), the gendarmerie, and the National Police. Its disloyalty to the president came to the fore during the mutinies in 1996–1997, and since then has faced internal problems.
