Yanina Wickmayer
Yanina Wickmayer (born 20 October 1989) is a Belgian professional tennis player. She reached the semifinals at the 2009 US Open – Women's singles, 2009 US Open, and a career-high WTA ranking of No. 12, on 19 April 2010. In doubles, she achieved a career-high of world No. 61, on 11 September 2023. She was awarded "Most Improved Player" by the Women's Tennis Association, WTA in 2009. ''Time (magazine), Time magazine'' named her one of the "30 Legends of Women's Tennis: Past, Present and Future" in June 2011. Personal life Wickmayer was born on 20 October 1989, to Marc Wickmayer and Daniella Dannevoye. She was introduced to tennis at the age of nine by friends at local courts. Belgium Fed Cup Team
The Belgian women's national tennis team, managed by the Belgian Tennis Federation, has been competing in the International Tennis Federation sanctioned Fed Cup since the very beginning: 1963. Sabine Appelmans
Sabine Appelmans (born 22 April 1972) is a former professional tennis player from Belgium. She was Belgium's Fed Cup Captain (sports), captain from 2007 until 2011. Career Appelmans started playing at the neighbour's court at the age of seven. Her first trainer, Fred Debruyn, saw immediately that she was very talented. Although right-handed, she played left-handed; at a children's tennis training session she claimed to be left-handed so she could stay with her friend in the left-handed group. Appelmans turned pro in 1988, and won her first title against Chanda Rubin in Virginia Slims of Arizona, Scottsdale in 1991. Caroline Maes
Caroline Maes (born 9 November 1982) is a former Belgian tennis player. Maes has been active in singles since 1997 and doubles since 1999. The highest place she ever achieved in the WTA rankings in singles is 151st on 28 May 2007. In doubles, she got to No. 135, on 11 February 2008. She could not win a WTA tournament, but won eight tournaments in singles and nine in doubles on the ITF Women's Circuit. Her last and most important ITF title was at the $100k tournament in Rome, on 19 May 2007, defeating Yuliya Beygelzimer and Stéphanie Cohen-Aloro on her way to the final, where she beat former top-50 player Marta Marrero from Spain. The ITF Women's World Tennis Tour, previously known as the ITF Women's Circuit, is a series of professional tennis tournaments run by the International Tennis Federation for female professional tennis players. Kim Antonie Lode Clijsters (; born 8 June 1983) is a Belgian former professional tennis player. She was ranked as the world No. 1 in women's singles by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for 20 weeks, and as the world No. 1 in women's doubles for 4 weeks, having held both rankings simultaneously in 2003.
