Yamandú Orsi
Yamandú Ramón Antonio Orsi Martínez (born 13 June 1967) is a Uruguayan politician and history teacher who has been the 43rd president of Uruguay since March 2025. A member of the left-wing Movement of Popular Participation, the main faction of the Broad Front (Uruguay), Broad Front party, he served as intendant of the Canelones Department from 2015 to February 2020, and a second term from November 2020 to 2024. A graduate from the :es:Instituto de Profesores Artigas, Artigas Teachers Institute in 1991 as a history teacher, he worked in different secondary schools in the Canelones, Florida Department, Florida, and Maldonado Department, Maldonado departments. He became politically active during his adolescence, being part of the Vertiente Artiguista until 1990, when he joined the Movement of Popular Participation (MPP) that had been founded the previous year. Ana Carolina Cosse Garrido (born 25 December 1961) is a Uruguayan engineer and politician who is serving as the Vice President of Uruguay since 2025, after winning the 2024 Uruguayan general election, 2024 general election. She has been Intendant of Montevideo from November 2020 until her resignation in July 2024. A member of the Broad Front (Uruguay), Broad Front, she served as Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (Uruguay), Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining from 2015 to 2019 during the Second presidency of Tabaré Vázquez, second administration of President Tabaré Vázquez. Canelones () is the capital of the Canelones Department, department of Canelones in Uruguay. Its name is derived from a species of cinnamon, which is called "canelón", growing along the banks of the homonymous river. Since 2010, the city is also the seat of the municipality of Canelones. Geography The city is located on Route 5 (Uruguay), Route 5 about North of Montevideo and on its intersection with Route 64. It lies on the west bank of the river Arroyo Canelón Chico.
