Yahatahigashi-ku, Kitakyūshū
is a Wards of Japan, ward of Kitakyūshū, Fukuoka Prefecture, Fukuoka, Japan. It is the second smallest ward in Kitakyūshū after Tobata-ku, Kitakyūshū, Tobata ward at only 36.36 square kilometres. Residents have a very high average age, one of the highest in Japan. The population was 77,077 at the end of September 2003. Facilities The ward contains the now-closed Space World amusement park. It also contains the Kawachi Dam, built to provide cooling water for the Yahata steelworks in the 1920s. When the dam was built, it was the largest in Asia. An ''onsen'' (hot spring) facility, Ajisai no Yu, has recently been built and includes outdoor bathing (''rotenburo''). Kitakyūshū
is a city located in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. As of June 1, 2019, Kitakyushu has an estimated population of 940,978, making it the second-largest city in both Fukuoka Prefecture and the island of Kyushu after the city of Fukuoka. Tobata-ku, Kitakyūshū
is a ward of Kitakyūshū, Fukuoka, Japan. It is the smallest ward of Kitakyūshū city at 16.66 km2. The population was 64,330 as of the national census in 2000. History and Geography In 1899 Tobata-cho (Tobata town) was created, and in 1924 Tobata-shi (Tobata city). The city was merged into Kitakyushu in 1963. Officially Tobata became a ward of Kitakyushu on April 1, 1963. Part of Tobata ward faces the sea inlet or firth (Scottish English) called Dokai wan, and the surrounding outer sea is called Hibiki nada. The red-painted bridge between Tobata and Wakamatsu wards is called the Waka-To Ohashi (Great Bridge of Waka-To) and was the first suspension bridge in Asia, completed in 1963. Space World
was a theme park in Yahatahigashi-ku, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan, Japan. It had six roller coasters: Black Hole Scramble, Venus GP, Zaturn, Boogie-woogie Space Coaster, Titan Max, and Clipper. In 2016, the park officially announced that it would close at the end of the following year. The park permanently closed at 2 am, 1 January 2018. Kawachi Dam is a dam in Yahata Higashi, KitaKyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. It was built from stone and mortar to sustain water flow for local steel mills between 1919 and 1927. It was once referred to as the "Orient's best dam".
