XHTUT-FM
XHTUT-FM is an indigenous radio station on 106.1 FM in Villa de Tututepec de Melchor Ocampo, Oaxaca. It is known as Estéreo Lluvia ("Stereo Rain"); its concession is held by the Mixtec indigenous community of San Pedro Tututepec. History Estéreo Lluvia has been broadcasting in one form or another since 2002, initially on 103.5 MHz. Its founders had previously hosted shows at XEJAM in Santiago Jamiltepec. The name for the station came from a contest; the winning entry drew from the fact that the Mixtec people are known as the ''pueblo de la lluvia'' (People of the Rain). Attempts to obtain a permit legally were met by denials alleging a radio station could not be economically or technically viable, and when a legal action was turned away, Estéreo Lluvia began unlicensed operations. Villa De Tututepec De Melchor Ocampo
Villa de Tututepec de Melchor Ocampo is a town and municipality in Oaxaca in south-western Mexico. History Before the arrival of Spanish, the area was occupied by a small Mixtec kingdom, established in 357 AD, when Prince Mazatzin arrived from Tilantongo. Upon climbing a mountain full of seabirds, Prince Mazatzin decided to found his capital in this beautiful location, calling it “Yucu – Saa”, or "Bird mountain" in the Mixtec language. Tututepec served as a Mixtec capital under Eight Deer Jaguar Claw, maintaining its independence despite coming under attack from the Aztecs between 1483–1519. When the conquistador Pedro de Alvarado arrived March 3, 1522, he defeated Tututepec's warriors, who fought under Cuaxintecutli (Venerable Lord Serpent). Mixtec
The Mixtecs (), or Mixtecos, are indigenous Mesoamerican peoples of Mexico inhabiting the region known as La Mixteca of Oaxaca and Puebla as well as La Montaña Region and Costa Chica Regions of the state of Guerrero. The Mixtec Culture was the main Mixtec civilization, which lasted from around 1500 BC until being conquered by the Spanish in 1523. The Mixtec region is generally divided into three subregions based on geography: the Mixteca Alta (Upper Mixtec or Ñuu Savi Sukun), the Mixteca Baja (Lower Mixtec or Ñuu I'ni), and the Mixteca Costa (Coastal Mixtec or Ñuu Andivi). Santiago Jamiltepec (Mixtec: Casandoo) is a town, and the seat of surrounding municipality of the same name, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
