Wynental
The Wyna (or Wyne) is a river located mostly in canton of Aargau, but also in canton of Lucerne, Switzerland and runs through the ''Wynetal'' (the Wyne Valley). It is a tributary of the Suhre. The Wyna is 32 km long (main outflow in Reinach (AG): 0.9 m3/s). Larger towns in Wynetal are Beromünster, Menziken, Reinach (AG) and Gränichen. River The ''Wyna'' is started by several headwaters south-west of Neudorf (LU) in the Lindewald (forest), 17 km north-east from Lucerne. Near Underdorf, the ''Lochbach'', or Hole Creek, which starts in the Chegelwald, west of Neudorf, joins the Wyna. Menziken
Menziken is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. On 1 January 2023 the former municipality of Burg merged to form the municipality of Menziken. History Menziken is first mentioned in 1045 as ''Manzinchouen'' though that comes from a 14th-century copy of the original document. In 1295 it was mentioned as ''Menzchon''. However, the current site of Menziken was settled earlier. Both Roman era ruins and Alamanni graves have been discovered in the municipality. During the High Middle Ages it was owned by the Counts of Lenzburg. In 1173 it passed over to the Kyburgs and following the extinction of the Kyburg line, in 1273 it passed to the Habsburgs. The Habsburgs held the rights to high justice while their vassals, the Lords of Reinach, held the rights to low justice. Gränichen
Gränichen is a municipality in the district of Aarau of the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. Geography The river Wyna flows north at first and heads northwest thereafter. The valley has an average width of about . On both sides of the valley there are steep hills with tributary valleys and small high plateaus. The landscape is not dissimilar to that of the Tafeljura, even though - geographically and geologically speaking - Gränichen lies in the Midland of Switzerland. Reinach, Aargau
Reinach is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History Scattered neolithic items indicated that the area around Reinach has been occupied since at least that time. Several Hallstatt era tumuli (at Sonnenberg), Roman era buildings (at Chilebreiti) and Alamanni graves (at Herrenweg) confirm the early settlement of the region. Reinach is first mentioned in 1036 as ''Rinacha''. At around the same time, the Lords of Reinach (named after their castle of Unter-Rinach, in a neighboring village), owned much of the property in the village. Teufenthal is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. Geography The street lies in the lower part of a tight, three-kilometer long side of Wyna, in an easterly direction to the plateau of Dürrenäsch. It is bounded to the north by the foothills of the Surberg and to the south by the foothills of the High Rock. Burg, Aargau
Burg is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History Unter-Rinach Castle, which the village name references, was probably built in the 12th Century. It was the family seat of the lords of Rinach, who were vassals of the Habsburgs. The castle was destroyed in the Battle of Sempach by the Swiss and was never rebuilt. The first reference to Burg was in 1412 when two farms that were "by the castle" (german: Burg) were mentioned. Oberkulm
Oberkulm is a municipality in the district of Kulm, in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History Oberkulm is first mentioned in 1045 as ''Chulenbare'', though this is for both Oberkulm and Unterkulm. In 1295 Oberkulm, individually, was mentioned as ''Obern Chulnbe''. The earliest evidence of a settlement is a Celtic gold coin from the 1st century BC. During the Roman era Oberkulm was the site of a Roman estate (villa columbaria, 1756–58 and 1902 excavations) and Alamanni graves, both from the 1st century AD. Leimbach, Aargau
Leimbach () is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History Leimbach is first mentioned in 1300 as ''Leimbach''. During the Middle Ages the rights to collect tithes was divided between the Lords of Reinach, Hallwyl, Heidegg, Rupperswil, Büttikon, Falkenstein, Liebegg, and the Monastery at Beromünster. Starting in 1415 Leimbach was under Berner authority. At the behest of Bern, it broke away in 1528 from the Catholic parish of Pfeffikon and in 1529 joined the Reformed parish of Reinach. Unterkulm
Unterkulm is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History Both Roman ruins near the church and late-Roman coins at Sonnenhof indicate that the area near Unterkulm was settled during the Roman era. However, Unterkulm is first mentioned in 1045 as ''Chulenbare'' though this is for both Unterkulm and Oberkulm.
