Wu Shaoyang
Wu Shaoyang () (died September 29, 814) was a Chinese military general and politician of the Chinese Tang Dynasty, who, after seizing control of Zhangyi Circuit (彰義/彰义, headquartered in modern Zhumadian, Henan) in 809, governed it in a ''de facto'' independent manner from the imperial government until his death in 814. Background It is not known when Wu Shaoyang was born, but it is known that his family was from Cang Prefecture (滄州/沧州, in modern Cangzhou, Hebei). His father was named Wu Xiang (), and both his father and he served in the army of Weibo Circuit (魏博, headquartered in modern Handan, Hebei), when he became friendly with another Weibo soldier, Wu Shaocheng. Sometime after Wu Shaocheng became military governor (''Jiedushi'') of Zhaoyi Circuit in 786,''Zizhi Tongjian'', vol. 232. he sent gold and silk to Weibo Circuit, requesting that he be allowed to have Wu Shaoyang. Emperor Xianzong of Tang (4 March to 1 April 778'' Old Book of Tang'', vol. 14. – 14 February 820; r. 805 – 820), personal name Li Chun, né Li Chun (), was an emperor of the Chinese Tang Dynasty. Emperor Muzong of Tang (July 26, 795 – February 25, 824), personal name Li Heng, né Li You () (name changed 812), was an emperor of the Tang Dynasty of China. He reigned from 820 to 824. Emperor Muzong was the son of Emperor Xianzong. He was created crown prince in 812 during the reign of Emperor Xianzong and, after Emperor Xianzong was allegedly assassinated by a eunuch, Li Heng was proclaimed emperor in 820. After succeeding to the throne, Muzong spent his time feasting and heavily drinking, thereby neglecting his duties as emperor.
