Wolfgang Petersen
Wolfgang Petersen (14 March 1941 – 12 August 2022) was a German film director, screenwriter, and producer. He was nominated for two Academy Awards for the World War II submarine warfare film ''Das Boot'' (1981). His other films include ''The NeverEnding Story'' (1984), '' Enemy Mine'' (1985), ''In the Line of Fire'' (1993), ''Outbreak'' (1995), ''Air Force One'' (1997), '' The Perfect Storm'' (2000), ''Troy'' (2004), and ''Poseidon'' (2006). Early life Petersen was born on 14 March 1941 in Emden, the son of a naval officer. From 1953 to 1960, Petersen attended the Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums in Hamburg. He made his first films with an 8 mm camera while still at school. In the 1960s he was directing plays at Hamburg's Ernst Deutsch Theater. Emden
Emden () is an independent city and seaport in Lower Saxony in the northwest of Germany, on the river Ems. It is the main city of the region of East Frisia and, in 2011, had a total population of 51,528. The Battle of the Atlantic, the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, ran from 1939 to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, covering a major part of the naval history of World War II. At its core was the Allied naval blockade of Germany, announced the day after the declaration of war, and Germany's subsequent counter-blockade. The campaign peaked from mid-1940 through to the end of 1943. Alexander Ziegler (Swiss Writer)
Alexander Ziegler (8 March 1944 – in Zürich; 11 August 1987 in Zürich) was a Swiss author and actor. Ziegler studied drama at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Wien (1960/1961). He was an actor in Spring Awakening, a play by Frank Wedekind, in 1964. He was also an actor in the American television series ''Boys and Girls'', created by Fred Mallow. Openly gay, in 1966, he was imprisoned for two years because of his gay friendship with a 16-year-old named Stephan. While in prison, he wrote his first work, ''Labyrinth'' (1966). After he was released from prison, he worked as a journalist and author from 1971 to 1979 for the German gay magazine '' DU&ICH''. He wrote many other articles and books. In November 1977, his work ''Die Konsequenz'' was filmed and shown on German television. ''Die Konsequenz'' (''The Consequence'') is a 1977 West German made for television film directed by Wolfgang Petersen. The screenplay is an adaptation of the 1975 autobiographical novel of the same name by Alexander Ziegler. The film premiered on ARD on 8 November 1977. Plot Gay actor Martin Kurath (Jürgen Prochnow) who is in prison develops a friendship with Thomas Manzoni (Ernst Hannawald), the 15-year-old son of the prison warden (Lüönd). The two fall in love and they both yearn for Kurath's release. This triggers intense indignation in their surroundings. After Kurath is released a year later, Thomas, accompanied by Kurath, tells his parents he is a homosexual. His father tells him to leave and never return. It was Petersen's first theatrical feature film, and was based on the novel of the same name by Horst Bosetzky, published anonymously under his pseudonym -ky.
