Alan Winton
Alan Peter Winton (born 4 September 1958) is the Bishop of Thetford in the Church of England Diocese of Norwich. Education and family Winton was born on 4 September 1958 in London, England. He was educated at Sheffield University, whence he was awarded his Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) honours degree in Biblical Studies in 1983. He then studied for and received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from that university in 1987, then trained for the ministry at Lincoln Theological College. Winton married in 1982, and they have two children; his wife is also a priest. Alexander Winton
Alexander Winton (June 20, 1860 – June 21, 1932) was a Scottish-American bicycle, automobile, and diesel engine designer and inventor, as well as a businessman and racecar driver. Winton founded the Winton Motor Carriage Company in 1897 in Cleveland, Ohio, making the city an important hub of early automotive manufacturing. His pioneering achievements in the automotive industry included taking one of the first long-distance journeys in America by car and developing one of the first commercial diesel engines. Winton left the automotive manufacturing business when he liquidated his car company in 1924 to focus on his powertrain engineering firm, Winton Gas Engine & Mfg. Co., which he had established a dozen years earlier to focus on engine development. This business was later sold to General Motors in 1930 and became known as the Cleveland Diesel Engine Division. Andrew Winton
Andrew Winton (born February 1972, Perth) is an independent and solo Australian musician who combines acoustic guitar, lap slide, dobro and seven-string lap guitar/bass (the Wintonbeast), with hollers and stomp. Winton's sound has been likened to a cross between Ben Harper, Sting, Kelly-Joe Phelps and Harry Manx. Winton currently lives in Perth with Karen (his wife, manager and percussionist/vocalist) and their three children. Winton is a brother of both the author Tim Winton and Sharyn O'Neill, who is head of the Western Australian public service (as Public Sector Commissioner) and was previously director of the Education Department. Dale Jonathan Winton (22 May 1955 – 18 April 2018) was an English radio DJ and television presenter. He presented the shows ''Dale's Supermarket Sweep'' from 1993 until 2001 and again in 2007, the National Lottery game show ''In It to Win It'' between 2002 and 2016 and the 2008 series of '' Hole in the Wall''. Winton also presented ''Pets Win Prizes'' (1995–96) and '' The Other Half'' (1997–2002). Early life Winton was born on 22 May 1955 to a Jewish father, Gary Winton, and actress Sheree Winton, a Jewish convert. Francis Winton (ca 1829 – 1908) was a printer, publisher and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Bonavista in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1869 to 1873 as an Anti-Confederate. The son of Henry D. Winton and Elizabeth Nicholson, he was born in St. John's. In 1860, he was publishing the ''St. John's Daily News'' in partnership with his brother. In 1866, he began publishing the ''Day Book'', later the ''Morning Chronicle''. Henry David Winton
Henry David Winton (June 10, 1793 – January 6, 1855) was an English-born printer and newspaper owner in Newfoundland. The son of Reverend Robert Winton, he was born in Withycombe Raleigh, Exmouth. He was an apprentice to a printer and bookbinder in Dartmouth and continued in that trade in London. In 1816, Winton married Elizabeth Luttrell Nicholson. He came to Newfoundland in 1818 and opened a wholesale and retail stationery business in St. John's. In 1820, with a partner, he founded the ''Public Ledger and Newfoundland General Advertiser'' at St. John's. Under Winton, the paper criticized Roman Catholic politicians and helped sow discord between Catholic and Protestants in Newfoundland. Jane Winton (October 10, 1905 – September 22, 1959) was an American film actress, dancer, opera soprano, writer, and painter. Early years Winton was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1905. The deaths of her father when she was four years old and her mother when she was six led to Winton's being "swapped back and forth among relatives, none of whom had proper funds to support her and therefore offered her more resentment than affection." Eventually, an elderly doctor who was a family friend adopted her and raised her in a strict environment. John Winton
John Pratt, pen name John Winton (3 May 1931 in London – 27 April 2001) was an English author and obituarist, following a career in the Royal Navy in which he rose to Lieutenant-Commander. He was born in London and served in the Korean War and during the Suez Crisis. Nancy Wigginton (6 November 1925 – 11 May 2019), known professionally as Nan Winton, was a British broadcaster, best known for being the first female newsreader to read the national news on BBC television. Career Winton (born Nancy Wigginton) was the youngest of the four children of Frank and Evelyn (née Nurse), who were respectively a surveyor and a homemaker. She left school at 15, to run the household; her mother having died. Before the end of the war, she joined the Women's Land Army, becoming a drill sergeant.
