West Virginia Route 622
West Virginia Route 622 is a north–south state highway located entirely in Kanawha County, West Virginia. The southern terminus of the route is at West Virginia Route 25 west of Institute. The northern terminus is at Interstate 77 exit 114 north of Pocatalico. Route description WV 622 begins at WV 25 on the outskirts of Institute. From its southern terminus, WV 622 proceeds northwest to Interstate 64, where WV 622 interchanges with the expressway by way of exit 47 on the southern edge of Cross Lanes. As the route turns 90 degrees to the northeast, WV 622 gains an extra turning lane, widening the road to three lanes as it enters Cross Lanes. The third lane terminates shortly after the intersection of Doc Bailey Road (Kanawha County Route 10.) A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. U.S. Route 21 or U.S. Highway 21 (US 21) is a major north–south United States Numbered Highway in the Southeastern United States that travels . The southern terminus is in Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina, south of the junction with US 21 Business and South Carolina Highway 802 (SC 802) in Beaufort. The northern terminus is in Wytheville, Virginia at an interchange with Interstate 81 (I-81) and US 52. West Virginia Route 501 is a two-lane west–east connector route. It is known as Big Tyler Road, and starts at the unincorporated community of Tyler Mountain, splitting off from WV Route 62. It travels through the state for passing by the major towns and cities of Huntington, Charleston, Beckley, and Lewisburg. Interstate 77 (West Virginia)
Interstate 77 (I-77) in the US state of West Virginia is a major north–south Interstate Highway. It extends for between Bluefield at the Virginia state line and Williamstown at the Ohio state line. The highway serves Charleston, the capital and largest city in West Virginia; it also serves the cities of Princeton, Beckley, and Parkersburg. I-77 follows the entire length of the West Virginia Turnpike, a toll road that runs between Princeton and Charleston, and it runs concurrently with I-64 between Beckley and Charleston. Historically, the West Virginia Turnpike was a two-lane road with treacherous curves and a tunnel (which has since been decommissioned). Institute is an unincorporated community on the Kanawha River in Kanawha County, West Virginia, United States. Interstate 64 and West Virginia Route 25 pass by the community, which has grown to intermingle with nearby Dunbar. As of 2018, the community had a population of 1,489, 54% of whom were African American. The town was founded by a formerly enslaved woman, Mary Barnes. Institute is home to West Virginia State University (formerly the ''West Virginia Colored Institute'' and the source of the town's toponym) and the West Virginia State Police Academy.
