West Bay (Doha)
West Bay ( ar, الخليج الغربي) is an area in Doha, Qatar that encompasses the city's east coast districts, namely, Al Qassar, Al Dafna, West Bay Lagoon and Onaiza. West Bay includes many modern buildings unlike other, older districts of Doha. Some of the tallest skyscrapers in Qatar are found in this area. History In Qatar's first census conducted in 1986, West Bay was the tentative name for seven newly established zones of Doha along the coastline: Zone 60 and Zone 62 to Zone 67. Contemporary usage of the term refers to all the districts currently occupying these zones, which currently includes Al Qassar, Al Dafna, West Bay Lagoon (official name ''Leqtaifiya''), Onaiza, and Hazm Al Markhiya. Transport Mowasalat manages a shuttle service for the West Bay Area under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Communication. Al Dafna
Al Dafna (Arabic: الدفنة) is a seaside district of the Qatari capital Doha located on the Persian Gulf. The district is currently rapidly developing into a central business district, and since the late 1990s dozens of skyscrapers have risen in the district, with over fifty more planned. The district is also home to the City Center (Doha), City Center mall, one of the Middle East's largest malls. The district was physically created in the mid-1980s following a massive land reclamation project along Doha's coastline, and started to develop in the mid-1990s. Currently, Al Dafna is rapidly becoming Doha's new downtown district, and with the massive amount of recent development towards the north of Doha; it is also rapidly becoming the new centre of the city. Qatar

Ad-Dawhah ( ar, الدوحة, ' or ''ad-Dōḥa'', ) is the one of the eight municipalities of Qatar. It is the most populous municipality with a population of 956,457, and is the municipality of Qatar's capital city, Doha. Etymology According to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, the name "Doha" originated from the Arabic language, Arabic term "dohat", which means "roundness". This name is derived from the rounded bays surrounding the area's coastline. Al Qassar
Al Qassar ( ar, القصار, Al Qaşşār; also spelled to as Al Gassar) is a seafront district on Qatar's eastern coast, located in the municipality of Ad Dawhah. In the 2015 census it formed Zone 61 with Al Dafna and Zone 66 with Onaiza and Leqtaifiya. Etymology In Arabic, ''qassar'' is a word used for small black rocks found around beaches. The district received its name because of its high concentration of these rocks. West Bay Lagoon, also known as Leqtaifiya ( ar, لقطيفية; also spelled as Legtaifiyah or Al Qutaifiya) is a district of Doha, the capital city of Qatar. Spanning from the Doha Corniche to West Bay Lagoon, the area has villas on one side, and low rises on the other. The district is well known for its luxurious waterfront villas, which are some of the most expensive in the country. As one of the few freehold areas in Doha, properties are available for purchase by non-Qataris. Together with Onaiza and Al Qassar, it makes up Zone 66 which has a total population of 22,024. Onaiza
Onaiza ( ar, عنيزة, ‘Unayzah) is a north-eastern district of Doha, Qatar. It is located between Al Dafna, Qatar's emerging central business district, and Lusail, a development north of Doha which is set to hold 200,000 residents in the near future. History Onaiza housed Doha's first airport in the 20th century. It had a one-room terminal and a dirt landing strip. The district has mostly developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s as a result of its proximity to Doha's new business district and its relative distance from the more congested centre of the city. Zones Of Qatar
In the administrative divisions of Qatar, zones are the second-highest level of government after municipalities of Qatar, municipalities. As of the 2015 census, there were 98 zones. However, several of these zones are not currently in use. Over the years, numerous changes in zones have taken place. For instance, in the 2010 census, Zone 69 was transferred to Al Daayen Municipality, Zones 50 and 58 were added to Ad-Dawhah (municipality), Ad-Dawhah Municipality, and part of Zone 74 was merged with Zone 70 of Al Daayen Municipality. Hazm Al Markhiya ( ar, حزم المرخية) is a neighborhood of Doha, Qatar. Etymology In Arabic, "hazm" refers to a natural hill. The Doha Metro is a rapid transit system in Doha, Qatar's capital city, which became operational on 8 May 2019. It has three lines with an approximate overall length of 76 km and 37 stations.
