Water Polo
Water polo is a competitive team sport played in water between two teams of seven players each. The game consists of four quarters in which the teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into the opposing team's goal. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the match. Each team is made up of six field players and one goalkeeper. Excluding the goalkeeper, players participate in both offensive and defensive roles. It is typically played in an all-deep pool where players cannot touch the bottom. A game consists mainly of the players swimming to move about the pool, treading water (mainly using the eggbeater kick), passing the ball, and shooting at the goal. Teamwork, tactical thinking and awareness are also highly important aspects. Water polo is a highly physical and demanding sport and has frequently been cited as one of the most difficult to play. Sandro Campagna
Alessandro "Sandro" Campagna (born 26 June 1963) is an Italian former water polo player who competed at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. He is now the head coach of the Italy men's national water polo team. Career Campagna won a gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. As a head coach, he led Italy men's national team to win two medals in 2012 and 2016, becoming one of a few sportspeople who won Olympic medals in water polo as players and head coaches he then quit participating in the olympics because of the death of his wife in 2017. She died from a stroke. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2019. Gojko Pijetlović ( sr-cyr, Гојко Пијетловић; born 7 August 1983) is a Serbian water polo player who plays as goalkeeper for VK Novi Beograd and the Serbia men's national water polo team. He was voted the best goalkeeper of 2014 European Championship. He was a member of the Serbian teams that won Olympic gold medals in 2016 and 2020, and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. He held the world title in 2009 and 2015 and the European title in 2014, 2016 and 2018. Stefan Mitrović ( sr-cyr, Стефан Митровић; born 29 March 1988) is a Serbian water polo center back for Partizan. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and gold medals in 2016 and 2020. He was pulled out of the 2008 Beijing Olympics team after suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident. He won the world title in 2009 and 2015 and the European title in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. Andrija Prlainović ( sr-Cyrl, Андрија Прлаиновић; born 28 April 1987) is a Serbian water polo player widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and gold medals in 2016 and 2020. Filip Filipović ( sr-Cyrl, Филип Филиповић; born 2 May 1987) is a Serbian water polo player widely considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and gold medals in 2016 and 2020. Nikola Rađen ( sr-cyr, Никола Рађен, ) (born 29 January 1985) is a Serbian water polo player who plays for Serbian club Crvena zvezda. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He won with Serbia the 2009 World Championship as well as the 2012 Eindhoven European Championship. Slobodan Nikić ( Serbian Cyrillic: Слободан Никић; born 25 January 1983) is a Serbian professional water polo player. He is currently free agent and he is a long-standing member of the Serbia men's national water polo team. Duško Pijetlović ( sr-cyr, Душко Пијетловић; 25 April 1985) is a Serbian water polo center forward for VK Novi Beograd. He was a member of the Serbia men's national water polo teams that won Olympic gold medals in 2016 and 2020, and bronze medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Vanja Udovičić ( sr-Cyrl, Вања Удовичић, ; born 12 September 1982) is a Serbian politician and former professional water polo player who served as minister of youth and sports from 2013 to 2022. An independent politician, he is aligned with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
