Wartislaw II, Duke Of Pomerania
Wartislaw II ( ~ 1160 – ~ 1184) was a duke of Pomerania-Demmin. He either was a son of Bogislaw I and Walburga of Denmark, or Wartislaw of the Swantiboride sideline of the Griffins, castellan of Szczecin. Wartislaw II was a son of Bogislaw I, duke of Pomerania-Stettin and his first wife Walburga of Denmark. He was married to Sophia of Poland, yet they had no children. Wartislaw received Pomerania-Demmin after Casimir I of Pomerania-Demmin died in 1180. This version is challenged by Adolf Hofmeister (1883–1956), who states that he has been confused with the Swantiboride ''castellan'' of Szczecin, Wartislaw (''Wartislaw Swantiboricz or Swantiboriz''), who is known to have been one of the legal guardians of Casimir II, who would be the next duke to rule Pomerania-Demmin. {{s-end See also *List of Pomeranian duchies and dukes *History of Pomerania *Duchy of Pomerania *House of Pomerania The House of Griffin or Griffin dynasty (german: Greifen; pl, Gryfici, da ...

Wartislaw II was Castellan of Szczecin. He is the only known son of Swantibor I, a Pomeranian prince about whom very little is known. In the early 1170s, a Danish army under King Valdemar I of Denmark, Valdemar I besieged Szczecin Castle. Reportedly, Wartislaw II surrendered and handed the castle to the Danes. In 1173, he founded Kołbacz Abbey. After the death of Duke Bogislaw I, Duke of Pomerania, Bogislaw I in 1187, Wartislaw II and Boglislaw's widow Anastasia jointly acted as guardians and regents for the underage Dukes Bogislaw II, Duke of Pomerania, Bogislaw II and Casimir II, Duke of Pomerania, Casimir II. The fact that he was their guardian is considered a strong indication that he was closely related to them; the exact family relationship is unknown. Wartislaw II was charged wi ...
