Wafia
Wafia Al-Rikabi (born 4 August 1993), known professionally as Wafia, is an Australian singer-songwriter of Iraqi-Syrian origin. Originally studying biomedicine at university, she began to write songs to escape its monotony. Her breakthrough hit was a cover of Mario's " Let Me Love You", which garnered almost 5 million plays on SoundCloud. Career Al-Rikabi has since signed to indie record label Future Classic, releasing her debut EP ''XXIX'' in November 2015. The EP's lead single "Heartburn", produced by Ta-ku, received praise from producer Pharrell Williams being played during his Beats 1 radio show. In March 2016, she released the single "Window Seat" in collaboration with the New Zealand artist Thomston. Regan Mathews, better known by his stage name Ta-ku, is an Australian musician, producer and photographer. Life and career Mathews was born and raised in the Australian city of Perth. He is half- Filipino, half-Māori. Mathews attended high school at John Curtin High School. Before he decided to focus on music, Mathews held a sales job at Medibank for five years. Mathews' stage name "Ta-ku" is a nod to his Māori heritage. In 2008, an invite to the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, taking counsel from the likes of DJ Toomp, Chuck D, Bun B, Omas Keith and Dennis Coffey. Louis the Child is an American electronic music group consisting of Robby Hauldren and Frederic J. Kennett. Career Robert David Hauldren was born on September 7, 1996 to David and Julia Hauldren. He attended one academic year at the University of Southern California where he joined the Beta-Sigma chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity before opting to take a leave and further pursue music. Hauldren primarily DJed and made mashups under the alias Haul Pass throughout 2011. Frederic Judson Kennett was born on October 19, 1997 to Jon and Anne Kennett. He focused on musical production under the alias Fatboy, while completing high school. Like A Version
''Like a Version'' is a weekly segment on Australian youth radio station Triple J. It involves Australian and international artists playing two songs live in the Triple J studio, one of their own songs (an "original") and then a cover version, hence the name of the segment. The title is wordplay on the Madonna song " Like a Virgin". It was created by Mel Bampton as part of the ''Mel in the Morning'' program. The segment was later moved to Robbie Buck's Drive program, and then to the Breakfast Show. Due to the intimate nature of the studio, the performance is often acoustic or otherwise stripped-back, however some bands have stretched this concept. The segment has grown in popularity over the years, leading to the release of compilation CDs featuring the best covers. Some particularly well-received covers have also made it into the Triple J Hottest 100. Ethan Snoreck, better known by his stage name Whethan (formerly Wheathin), is an American DJ and music producer from Chicago. He gained recognition after his remix of the track "XE3" by Mssingno, which as of December 2018 has garnered over 13 million plays on SoundCloud. Early life Whethan attended Carl Sandburg High School from his freshman year until the first semester of his senior year. In May 2017, Whethan left high school early to tour with The Chainsmokers in 2017. He returned just long enough to attend his graduation ceremony at which he gave the entire school a preview of his unreleased work. Hakeem Lewis (born June 23, 1994), known professionally as Hak, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, songwriter and music video director from New York City. He is best known for once being a member of the hip hop group Ratking. Lewis later left Ratking in 2016 and released his first solo album, ''June'', the same year. Career Hak began his musical career in 2011 as a member of the New York City hip hop group Ratking with the rapper Wiki and the rapper-producer Sporting Life. The 2018 Triple J Hottest 100 was announced on 27 January 2019. It is the 26th countdown of the most popular songs of the year, as chosen by listeners of Australian radio station Triple J. A record-breaking number of voters (2.758 million) participated by choosing their top ten songs of 2018. Ocean Alley's "Confidence" was voted into first place. Ocean Alley also achieved four tracks in the countdown and became the second artist to be voted into No. 1 and No. 100 during the same countdown, after Powderfinger in 1999. Background Triple J's Hottest 100 allows members of the public to vote online for their top ten songs of the year, which are then used to calculate the year's 100 most popular songs.
