WPS All-Star 2010
The 2010 Women's Professional Soccer All-Star Game was the second WPS All-Star Game, taking place on June 30, 2010. Thirty-six players were divided into two teams with the top US vote-getter (Abby Wambach) and the top international vote-getter (Marta) as captains. Marta's XI defeated Abby's XI by five to two. Atlanta Beat named host WPS awarded the 2010 All-Star Game to Atlanta, Georgia in a press release on March 22, 2010. The venue was KSU Soccer Stadium, home of the Atlanta Beat. WPS All-Stars Voting Twenty-two of the thirty-six WPS All-Stars were chosen by vote. 25% of the total vote came from fans voting online, 25% from media, 25% from coaches (who were prohibited from voting for their team's players), and 25% from players. The results of the voting were released on June 9, 2010 The top three fan picks this year were Wambach, Marta, and Hope Solo. Women's Professional Soccer All-Star Game
The WPS All-Star Game was founded in Women's Professional Soccer, the league's 2009 Women's Professional Soccer season, inaugural season, originally modeled after the MLS All-Star Game, where the WPS All-Star team play against a club team from a level-one league from another country, though this changed as of the second year to feature two teams of WPS All-Star players. WPS All-Stars are chosen either by being voted on to the starting eleven(s), or by being selected by the league. Voting is equally weighted between fans, media, players, and coaches (25% each), while the 'at-large' selections are chosen by the WPS Commissioner, currently Anne-Marie Eileraas. The All-Star head coach(es) are chosen by the players. Amy Elizabeth LePeilbet (born March 12, 1982) is an American soccer coach and former player who was most recently the interim head coach of defunct team Utah Royals FC, formerly of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). As a player, LePeilbet last played as a defender for FC Kansas City of the NWSL and was a member of the United States women's national team. She was an Olympic gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympics and a silver medalist at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. Catherine Reddick Whitehill (born Catherine Anne Reddick; February 10, 1982) is an American retired professional soccer defender, who was also an assistant coach of the Boston Breakers in the NWSL. Whitehill last played for the Boston Breakers in 2015 and previously played for the Washington Freedom and the Atlanta Beat in the WPS as well as the United States women's national soccer team from 2000 to 2010. On November 28, 2012, while serving as a television commentator for a match between USA and Republic of Ireland, Whitehill expressed an interest in working her way back into the national team. Early life Whitehill was born in Richmond, Virginia, and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, attending Briarwood Christian School. Natasha Kanani Janine Kai (born May 22, 1983) is an American professional soccer forward and Olympic gold medalist. She previously played for Sky Blue FC and the Philadelphia Independence of Women's Professional Soccer and National Women's Soccer League as well as the United States women's national soccer team.
