WEOA (1400 AM) is a radio station licensed to and serving the Evansville, Indiana market. The transmitter is located near the interchange of I-69 and Weinbach Avenue in Evansville. History 1400 AM originally was WEOA (Evansville On the Air) then changed to WROZ, a Top 40 station in the 1960s with top personalities such as Charlie Shoe, Jack Etzel, Mark Clark, Steve Walling, and Johnny Carr, and country music in the 1970s and 1980s with top personalities: Tiny Hughes and Jim Embry. After WROZ left, 1400 became a simulcast of then WJPS-FM (now WLFW 93.5). In 1997, a group of African American investors approached South Central Communications about leasing the frequency for an urban contemporary format. South Central agreed. For 10 years, WEOA would be the only urban station in the Evansville area until August 2007 when CHR/Pop WDKS shifted to Urban. WROZ (101.3 MHz) is a non-commercial FM radio station licensed to Lancaster and serving South Central Pennsylvania. The station is owned and operated by the Educational Media Foundation and carries its Air1 Christian worship music radio format. Thomas Joyner (born November 23, 1949) is an American retired radio host, former host of the nationally syndicated '' The Tom Joyner Morning Show'', and also founder of Reach Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, and BlackAmericaWeb.com. Early life Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, the son of Frances and Hercules L. Joyner. Tom came from an educated family: his grandfather Oscar was one of only 3,000 black physicians in the United States, earning a degree in medicine in 1909. Both of his parents were graduates of historically black colleges, and both Tom and his brother Albert attended Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University. In North American broadcasting, a local marketing agreement (LMA), or local management agreement, is a contract in which one company agrees to operate a radio or television station owned by another party. In essence, it is a sort of lease or time-buy. Under Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, a local marketing agreement must give the company operating the station (the "senior" partner) under the agreement control over the entire facilities of the station, including the finances, personnel and programming of the station. Urban Contemporary
Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music. Urban contemporary radio stations feature a playlist made up entirely of Black genres such as R&B, pop-rap, quiet storm, urban adult contemporary, hip hop, Latin music such as Latin pop, Chicano R&B and Chicano rap, and Caribbean music such as reggae and soca. WLFW
WLFW is a Southern gospel-formatted radio station located in Johnston, South Carolina, and is part of the Augusta, Georgia, radio market (mostly on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River). The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast at 92.7 FM with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 1.8 kW. History WLFW signed on August 26, 1985, as WKSX-FM, the FM to 1190 WJES—Johnston, simulcasting full-time. Both stations had a mostly satellite-fed adult contemporary format, with local high school sports.
