Wycombe is a rural Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in the Maranoa Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Wycombe had a population of 39 people. History The locality name derives from a pastoral run name, named by pastoralist John Beckett after his birthplace in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England. Whycombe Provisional School and Waroo Provisional School both opened in 1902 as a half-time provisional schools in conjunction (meaning the schools shared a single teacher). Whycombe Provisional School closed in 1907 and Warroo Provisional School became a full-time school, but then closed too circa 1910. Wycombe State School opened on 26 February 1979 on Dilqui Road (). High Wycombe () is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, within the City of Kalamunda. High Wycombe lies east of the Perth CBD at the base of the Darling Scarp (commonly referred to as the ''foothills''). Formerly part of Maida Vale, the suburb was officially declared on 2 June 1978; its name, which was first used in 1958 by a subdivider, Western Agencies, refers to the town in Buckinghamshire where one of the partners in the firm was born. Lying in the valley of the River Wye, Buckinghamshire, River Wye surrounded by the Chiltern Hills, it is west-northwest of Charing Cross in London, south-southeast of Aylesbury, southeast of Oxford, northeast of Reading, Berkshire, Reading and north of Maidenhead. Wycombe District was a local government district in Buckinghamshire in south-central England. Its council was based in the town of High Wycombe. The district was abolished on 31 March 2020 and its area is now administered by the unitary Buckinghamshire Council. It had introduced locality budgets before October 2013. History The district's name was drawn from the Barony of Wycombe which was originally given to Thomas Gilbert, in 1171. The district was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by the merger of the Municipal Borough of High Wycombe with Marlow Urban District and Wycombe Rural District. Wycombe Rural District was, from 1894 to 1974, a rural district in the administrative county of Buckinghamshire, England. Origins The district had its origins in the Wycombe Poor Law Union, which had been created in 1835, covering High Wycombe and several surrounding parishes. In 1872 sanitary districts were established, giving public health and local government responsibilities for rural areas to the existing boards of guardians of poor law unions. The Wycombe Rural Sanitary District therefore covered the area of the poor law union except for the town of High Wycombe, which was a municipal borough (officially called Chepping Wycombe until 1946) and so became its own urban sanitary district. Wycombe, Pennsylvania
Wycombe is an unincorporated community primarily located in Wrightstown Township with a portion located in Buckingham Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. History Founded during the 1890s when the Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad opened a line through the county, it was called "Lingohocken", the traditional Indian name of the area assigned by local residents. The post office was named Wycombe to prevent confusion with the post office in Wingohocken Pa. The Lingohocken Fire Company, which is located on the edge of town, retains this older name. The New Hope Railroad still owns the rail line through the town, and having finished restoring the former Reading Company station building in 2011, intends to restore service through Wycombe.
