Wu Ying-yih
Wu Ying-yih (, born 15 January 1943) is a politician in the Republic of China who served as the Minister of the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission and subsequently the Overseas Community Affairs Council of the Executive Yuan from 2008 to 2013. Education Wu obtained his bachelor's degree in medicine from the Department of Surgery of National Taiwan University in 1961. He then obtained his doctoral degree in surgery from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in the United States in 1974. Political career Wu served as a member of the 6th Legislative Yuan after being elected in the 2004 Republic of China legislative election on 11 December 2004 and taking office on 1 February 2005. ''Wú'' is the pinyin transliteration of the Chinese surname 吳 (Simplified Chinese 吴), which is a common surname (family name) in Mainland China. Wú (吳) is the sixth name listed in the Song Dynasty classic ''Hundred Family Surnames''. In 2019 Wu was the ninth most common surname in Mainland China. The Kuomintang (KMT), also referred to as the Guomindang (GMD), the Nationalist Party of China (NPC) or the Chinese Nationalist Party (CNP), is a major political party in the Republic of China, initially on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan after 1949. It was the sole party in China during the Republican Era from 1928 to 1949, when most of the Chinese mainland was under its control. 2004 Republic Of China Legislative Election
The 2004 Taiwanese legislative election was held on 11 December 2004. All 225 seats of the Legislative Yuan were up for election: 168 elected by single non-transferable vote, 41 elected through party-list Proportional representation, eight elected from overseas Chinese constituencies on the basis of the proportion of nationwide votes received by participating political parties, eight elected by popular vote among the aboriginal populations. Executive Yuan
The Executive Yuan () is the executive branch of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Its leader is the Premier, who is appointed by the President of the Republic of China, and requires confirmation by the Legislative Yuan. Under the amended constitution, the head of the Executive Yuan is the Premier who is positioned as the head of government and has the power to appoint members to serve in the cabinet, while the ROC President is the head of state under the semi-presidential system, who can appoint the Premier and nominate the members of the cabinet. The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC; ; Pha̍k-fa-sṳ: ''Khièu-vu Vî-yèn-fi'') is a cabinet-level council of the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan). The council was founded in 1926 in Canton (Guangzhou) in Kwangtung (Guangdong) Province.
